Celebrating Africans and Africa Day!

Almaz Negash to Join the United Nations Economic Commission on Africa (UNECA)

The board of the African Diaspora Network is pleased to announce that Almaz Negash has accepted her nomination to serve as a member of UNECA’s High Level Panel on International Migration (HLP). Negash will be one of 14 persons chosen to serve on the panel with the goal to bring migration issues to the fore of the policy agenda and to propose strategic policies and actions at the national, regional, and global levels. Please join us in congratulating her for this inestimable honor.  The launch of the HLP, to be chaired by H.E. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, will take place in Monrovia, Liberia from 5-6 June 2017.   
 
We will set a date and time for a feedback session in the summer, wherein Almaz can report on the interchange and input from other UNECA representatives.  

May 25 Africa Day

On May 25 and every day, we join those who celebrate the past, the present, with the anticipation of a promising future for Africa.  We also salute, Prof. Mammo Muchie, one of the leading thoughts leaders and Pan Africanist and, an ADN champion for his effortless work to bring the issue of Africa to the forefront.

African Diaspora Network Updates

ADN Membership Management Platform Coming to you SOON!
 
After four months of looking for the right technology partner to develop a robust membership engagement platform for our growing community, we are delighted to announce that we found one.  Over the next 2 months we will be working to implement the management and community system in order to better serve our mission and to make your experience with ADN better.  The system will allow each person to have their own login information, and to easily participate through the online communication tools.  
 
The platform is possible thanks to the generosity of 20 individuals and a foundation.  We will share more details about our seed funders and how you can participate in the weeks to come.  
Announcing ADN Diaspora Conversations Podcast

We are happy to announce the development of the African Diaspora Conversation Podcast. The podcast is a partnership between the African Diaspora Network and The Hybrid Leadership Institute.  The podcast is curated and hosted by Dr. Flo Falayi, Founder, The Hybrid Leadership Institute, with the intention to bring personal, transparent, authentic story of the diaspora.

Josephine (Mutugu) Gordon, Director, Strategic Partnership
Dr. Flo Falayi, PhD, Educator, Author, and Leadership Trainer 
Josephine holds an LL.B. from the University of Nairobi and an LL.M. from Berkeley Law, then Boalt Law.  Her interests run the gamut from researching and advising on the intersection of law, technology and culture to volunteering her time for non profits in Kenya and the US.  
Dr. Flo Falayi, PhD, is an organizational leadership consultant and Founder of The Hybrid Leadership Institute focused on enabling, training, and coaching leaders and next-generation global and African leaders. Dr. Flo, referred to as The Hybrid Leader™, is an American Born, British Educated, and Nigerian Raised Scholar, Educator, and Author.

The Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship for the 2017-2018 application cycle is open. Applications are due by 7 June 2017.
 
Now in its sixth year, the Fellowship supports promising African students with financial need in obtaining an MBA at Stanford. Since launching the Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship, we have received over 2,500 applications per year and the number of MBA admits from Africa has more than doubled. We are excited to continue this program and thank you for your help in making it such a success. 
Africa Business Fellowship is looking for innovative and driven professionals, with strong leadership potential, who have a deep passion for learning about and experiencing first-hand business in Africa and promoting America-Africa business relationships.  
 
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Graduate degree and/or 4+ years of meaningful business experience
  • Track record of academic achievement and early professional success
  • Strong analytic and communication skills
  • Community-level leadership accomplishments
  • Personal traits that reflect their potential: humility, integrity, ability to engage others, and a long-term vision for their place in the world
