Pieces of Canada ~ 150 years – 150 objects
Pieces of Canada exhibition poster

We reached out into the community, and they responded. Over 140 artefacts have been loaned to the Museum for this exhibition. Community members have provided their artefacts and their idea on what makes it an important story about Canada's past.

Visitors will explore the objects that the people of Niagara feel, tell a story about the country they live in. There are stories about transportation, immigration, sports, military and much more. These are personal stories that collectively tell us something about our nation. Visitors can use Augmented Reality to explore this exhibition or use more traditional means.

Pieces of Canada is on display in the OPG Temporary Gallery until December 31st

It is open Friday – Sunday from 11am to 5pm until August 27th and located at 6151 Lundy’s Lane. We also provide tours of the battlefield on these days at 2pm. Please arrive early.

Willoughby Historical Museum explores the rural life of Niagara Falls. Located along the Parkway on the corner of Weaver Road, a visit to the museum will include an exploration of the history of Willoughby. This museum is open Wednesday – Sunday 11am to 5pm until August 27th.

NIAGARA STORYWALKS®

The Museum is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.  When you visit the museum you can wander through Redmond Heights and read a book at the same time.

A StoryWalk® is an opportunity for children to experience reading a book while walking through a park, trail or neighborhood. StoryWalks® promote literacy and outdoor physical activity. Additionally, they foster community involvement and parent engagement. Children of all ages may experience a StoryWalk® with family members or caregivers by following an outdoor path of large, laminated pages from an illustrated story. The pages also contain questions and reading cues to encourage discussion, predictions and to strengthen children’s emergent literacy development. The Niagara Falls History Museum will be installing three separate stories over the summer at the Redmond Heights located beside the Battle Ground Hotel Museum (6137 Lundy’s Lane, Niagara Falls, ON). Stories include Hiawatha and the Peacemaker by Robbie Robertson and David Shannon (May/June), Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature by Joyce Sidman and Beth Krommes (July), and Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard (August).  Join staff at the Museum for crafts following your StoryWalk®.

This is in partnership with the Niagara Region and the Niagara Falls Public Library.  While onsite, why not take in a Battlefield Tour?  Tours start from the Battle Ground Hotel and start at 2pm.   All of these activities are free.  A great way for the family to spend an afternoon.
