4th International Symposium on Enhanced Landfill Mining - Call for abstracts
The call for extended abstracts for the Fourth Symposium on Enhanced Landfill Mining (ELFM IV, February 5-7, 2018) is open until May 30, 2017. We call upon all our stakeholders to submit a proposal. Papers for ELFM IV will be grouped into four major sessions: Geophysics, remediation and (pre)processing technologies; Thermal valorisation technologies; Upcycling technologies; Multi-criteria assessment. 10 good reasons to use solvometallurgy
One of the key niches within SIM² KU Leuven is the development of the solvometallurgy approach, which employs non-aqueous solutions to extract metals from ores, industrial process residues, production scrap and urban waste. In order to position this emerging branch Prof. Koen Binnemans and Dr. Peter Tom Jones authored a 31-page position paper in the Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy. New Policy Brief on the recycling challenges of End-of-Life Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
The EU Horizon 2020 projects EREAN and DEMETER have just published a new (joint) Policy Brief on the challenges with respect to the recycling of End-of-Life hybrid and electric vehicles ((H)EVs). The May 2017 Policy Brief is titled: “Processing options and future possibilities for sustainable recycling of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Internal Combustion Engine vehicles at vehicle recycling sites”. Bauxite Residue 2018 Conference (Athens)
The 2nd “Bauxite Residue Valorisation and Best Practices” conference will take place in May 2018 in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities. The Organisers cordially invite all interested participants to submit paper(s) to be featured at the Conference. ETN NEW-MINE video on ELFM viewed > 50,000 times in two weeks
The ETN NEW-MINE team launched its official video “Not just another brick”. With the help of Storyrunner the film was presented by Early Stage Researcher Giovanna Sauve (KU Leuven). Using graphic designs and beautiful animations the film explains the complex ELFM flow sheet: from the mining of the landfilled Municipal Solid Waste until the conversion into recyclables and high-added value outputs such as hydrogen (for fuel cells) and plasmarock-based inorganic polymer cement. The film was viewed > 50,000 times in two weeks and shared massively on social media. Watch the video >
