GPS Funding in the FY 2017 Omnibus
On May 5, 2017, President Trump signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, an omnibus funding measure that provides $908.262 million to the Air Force GPS program in FY 2017. President Obama's original request was $847.4 million.

The omnibus measure also allocates $5.6 million from the Department of Transportation to support GPS Civil Signal Monitoring. This represents a decrease from President Obama's request for $10 million. FAA's GPS Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) was fully funded at $111.6 million.

Omnibus Renews Provision on GPS Vehicle Tracking
Division K of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, includes the following provision applicable to the Department of Transportation:
Sec. 143. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to mandate global positioning system (GPS) tracking in private passenger motor vehicles without providing full and appropriate consideration of privacy concerns under 5 U.S.C. chapter 5, subchapter II.
