Looking back at the 2016-17 school year, there are so many wonderful memories such as our Fall Poetry Recital and monthly Book Project Fairs, December’s “Where the Rebels Are” and January’s Dr. King Celebration, partnering with Upper El friends for Culture Fair and mentoring Primary buddies in songs for “Annie” and library visits. But earlier this month, something happened that truly exemplified what we try to accomplish each day at CHMS. When she heard about our classroom sponsoring a 5 year-old boy in Tanzania, Lower El alum and current Level 5 student Aida Terrizzi stepped up and organized a fundraiser. The next thing we knew, the Terrizzi sisters and a troop of selfless friends had set up a booth and were selling homemade soaps and bath salts and donating the proceeds to little Tinya. And the speed in which the Lower El kids jumped on board their charity bandwagon was amazing. Aida reminded us- “If you’re gonna be a role model, you might as well make a difference in the world!” And there is no lesson in the Montessori curriculum more valuable to the development of the whole child than this.
