KOREY'S CORNER

It is hard to believe how quickly this school year has flown by. It has been a joy to spend my days with your children and I can't wait to do it all again next year! Of course, it is time to say goodbye to 8 incredible young people who are moving on to Junior High and for that reason, this time of year is bittersweet. So we look forward to a heartfelt farewell to our graduating 6th year class, a celebration of the children moving to the next classroom level and a delightful ending to this incredible 2016-2017 school year.

Our graduation ceremony will be held Thursday evening, June 8th at 5:30. As a special bonus this year, we will have a graduation party after the ceremony that will include live music! Many thanks to Mark Adams and his band for donating their time and talents at our auction and many thanks, as well, to Noah Small for purchasing the donation and then offering it to all of us at the school to enjoy! We all look forward to staying late into the evening and kicking up our heals! Bring your family and friends!! It is going to be great fun.

So thank you, my Children's House families, for all you have done to make our school so special. It truly has been a fabulous year.

TODDLER

To All Our Older Buddies,

Thank you for sharing your smiles with our classroom.

You have helped us to grow and see the world with new eyes.

We love you and thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do.

It’s a symbol of friendship and peace.”

PRIMARY (preschool)
& KINDERGARTEN

This year has flown by! The 2nd year primary students are not only enjoying the many opportunities they have to be leaders and mentors in our classroom, but they are also loving the moments when they are the mentees. This year the kindergarteners have been able to invite our 2nd year students into the kindergarten room and have been giving new lessons to them. It is wonderful to see the 2nd years have this beneficial chance to explore the kindergarten room before transitioning into that room next year.

The kindergarteners take their roll as mentors seriously. They love the opportunity to share what they know with the second-year preschool students. The kindergarteners wrote this acrostic poem to explain their idea of mentoring...
from the Lower Elementary, with help from Upper El Students...
Looking back at the 2016-17 school year, there are so many wonderful memories such as our Fall Poetry Recital and monthly Book Project Fairs, December’s “Where the Rebels Are” and January’s Dr. King Celebration, partnering with Upper El friends for Culture Fair and mentoring Primary buddies in songs for “Annie” and library visits. But earlier this month, something happened that truly exemplified what we try to accomplish each day at CHMS. When she heard about our classroom sponsoring a 5 year-old boy in Tanzania, Lower El alum and current Level 5 student Aida Terrizzi stepped up and organized a fundraiser. The next thing we knew, the Terrizzi sisters and a troop of selfless friends had set up a booth and were selling homemade soaps and bath salts and donating the proceeds to little Tinya. And the speed in which the Lower El kids jumped on board their charity bandwagon was amazing. Aida reminded us- “If you’re gonna be a role model, you might as well make a difference in the world!” And there is no lesson in the Montessori curriculum more valuable to the development of the whole child than this.

from the Upper Elementary:

Another full and wonderful year is coming quickly to a close. The upper elementary spent a spectacular week in Washington DC; taking in the sights, visiting museums, and experiencing the bustling city. Please stop by the classroom and check out our DC memory book, in which the kids share their favorite (and least favorite) experiences.

Since returning to CHMS, the class has been preparing for their performance of “Annie”, which was an awesome show. We hope you all had the opportunity to see our talented students perform in this amazing production. We are all so proud of them!
