Be Smart, Think Smart

I am a firm believer in the fact that starting with personal pride goes a long way towards high personal performance.

The 5 years that young people spend learning at John Hanson are far more than just a means to an end. They are not just about the knowledge and understanding needed to pass a set of examinations at the end of year 11, but encompass the development of a wide range of skills and attributes that will allow them to develop in to well rounded adults.

Part of this development involves them considering how they appear to others – school uniform, and how it is worn, plays a big part.

You will be aware that since taking over as Acting Headteacher at Easter I have insisted that students arrive each day in correct uniform and have taken steps to address this when they have not.

Why have I done this?
  • Uniform forms part of a school’s ethos. If students take a pride in how they present themselves they are in general more likely to take a pride in how they approach other aspects of their education and ultimately achieve to the best of their potential.
  • It is part of a wider education and part of their preparation for the world or work. A number of students will go in to a work place where they have to where a uniform, or if not, a place of work that has a dress code. It would be remiss of us as an educational establishment if we did not help them develop a ‘be smart, think smart’ attitude.
Between now and the end of the summer term I will be writing further to outline the high expectations we will be expecting from your children during the rest of this term and when they come back at the start of the next academic year.

Calling all Year 11 students!

Final chance to get your orders in for a Year 11 leaver's hoodie. Letters sent out via Parentmail on 9th May. Be sure to pop your reply and money into Reception by Monday 22nd May. Thank you!
We would like to thank Reasons Fitness for allowing our Year 10 GCSE students to partake in a few of their classes. They were put through their paces in a Body Pump class, followed up with some nice relaxing Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates classes. There were a few cases of ‘wobbly leg syndrome’ - seems the weight class took its toll! Well done for giving it such a good go!

This Girl Can!

Thanks to a generous pledge of £150 from Sam Abraham at Lloyds Bank, the John Ladies are doing well towards their fundraising target.  If your business in the Andover area would like to support us by having a dress down day or cake sale, then please do let us know and make you pledge on the link below!

As you know, John Hanson have entered an all female team of seventeen into the Cancer Research UK Shine Night Walk on the 23rd September.  This may suggest it’s only a walk, but it is a full marathon distance starting at 9:20pm, raising money for Children’s Cancer!

Watch this space over the coming weeks for ways in which you can help us reach our target.

Show My Homework is an easy to use, online homework calendar for schools. Teachers set homework; this appears on the homework calendar with all the relevant details such as deadlines and resources. Students and parents can access this at any time via the web or their mobile phone, making homework accessible and transparent for everyone.
