Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans (PATH) hosted its first SUSTAIN (Stand Up to Sex Trafficking: Awareness, Implementation, and Networking) Training for medical students and resident physicians in the northeast on Saturday, April 29th. The seminar focused on the core facts healthcare providers need to know regarding the intersection of anti-trafficking advocacy and healthcare. Participants observed a presentation cultivated by leading physicians and legal advocates and then had the opportunity to practice their own presentation skills. Speakers included Dr. Holly Atkinson (pictured below), Dr. Kanani Titchen, Dr. Mollie Gordon, Dr. Julia Geynisman-Tan, and Whitney Hood JD. Additional SUSTAIN Trainings are currently being planned for the upcoming year in cities across the country. On May 12th, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine held Motherhood and Medicine, a discussion panel focused on balancing career and family. Panelists provided information on how they were able to juggle having children during medical school, residency training, and beyond. Over 30 students attended to learn more about the timing of pregnancy, exposure risks, and discrimination within the workplace.
