ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

Outdoor Week - There is much excitement and discussion amongst the children around their upcoming Outdoor Week. Even though some of the classes have already had their big outings earlier in the year, as is the case with ECC and their visit to Maplewood Farm, Gr 4 and their visit to the Big House and Gr 5 with the Greek Games (see photos below), there are still day trips in the works.

Summer Camp - June 26 to 30, 2017, our Summer Camp is for children ages 6 through 12, and will run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm daily. The cost is $350 per week, and includes hot organic lunches and snacks. Find out more here.

After School Program 2017-18 - Our After School Program offers a warm and engaging environment consistent with the values of Waldorf education, and is open to children in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Register by June 30 to waive the one-time registration fee! Click to find out all the details.
***Reminder to current families, unless we hear otherwise, your registration will still be considered active come September.

Worker Bee - Many hands make for light work! Join us on Saturday June 10 for a Social Worker Bee! Bring your weed wackers, gardening shears, sun hats, and good spirits for a group effort to clear away some of the debris the long winter left behind!

Lynn Valley Day Parade - We are considering taking part in the Lynn Valley Day Parade this year on June 17. Contact Laura at lbergstrome@vws.ca by the end of next week if you would like to take part and let your school spirit shine! This is an excellent way to let our extended community know that we are here in Lynn Valley, and is a fun opportunity for our children to experience the festivities from another side!

Colin Dutson Award - Congratulations to Stefan Mitchel, the 2017 recipient of the Colin Dutson Award, which was “given in recognition of outstanding leadership and social responsibility in the school community”. An award well deserved.

One Day Cafe - Thank you to everyone who came out to make this pop-up cafe and fundraiser for World Wildlife Fund a great success! You helped Grade 6 raise $639 in sales!

New Garden Fence - Thank you to Dave and Bonnie Gosse for their beautiful craftsmanship in creating our new garden fence! Thanks to Valhalla for the donation of the wood preservative, and to Parent Council for helping with funds. Look at these amazing before and after photos!

GRADE 5 GREEK OLYMPIAD

Anticipating the Greek Olympics
“I hope that there are showers because I get very sweaty. I wonder if the food is good? Someone has to remind me to drink water, otherwise I get a headache. I wonder what I’m going to do on the bus ride?”

“I’m very excited to meet all the people from other schools there. I hope that I don’t make a fool of myself doing the sports. I want the food to be good because when my brother went to the Greek Games, they said the food was really bad. I DO NOT WANT TO GET SICK! I wonder what City State I will be in.”

“I can’t (well, I can, really) wait to do javelin, because I like it! And I also like group running. (And I’m hoping I don’t get constipated).

Reflections on the Greek Olympics
“Going to the Olympics was great. I loved the food and the gym. The cabins were nice, but the mattresses were kind of uncomfortable. I think our City State did pretty well in sprint, javelin, discus, and long jump. I was very happy to have a shower, but I’m still tired because I woke up so early.”

“I was very happy with the food. I’m very happy with the City State I was in, which was Iolcus. I make many friends at the Greek Games. My favourite activities at the Greek Games were long jump, relay, and sprinting.”

“The Olympics were fun. The food was pretty good considering is was camp food. My three favourite events are discus, javelin, and long jump. I like seeing the javelin go in an arc motion, and also when the discus spins in an upward motion. When it comes to long jump, it can hurt my knees, but I still do it for fun.”

“I likes the sprinting more than I thought! The camp was nicer than I thought, and the bus was so nice! Also, the food was really good!”

NOTES

It's sure going to be quiet around her next week! I will miss all the kids and the joy they bring with them each day! I hope that you are able to get a bit of an "Outdoor Week" for yourselves as well.

Many blessings
