Hello <<First Name>>

One of my favourite things to do in spring is buy a pile of rhubarb when it is in season and turn it into  rhubarb meringue cake (recipe here. It'll change your life). My partner Boris and I started growing our own rhubarb from seed last year, and I am thrilled to see it thriving in our community garden plot. It makes up for some of the things that didn't make it through the winter, like our poor lost lavender plant.

Tell me what's thriving in your garden (literal or figurative) these days.

Cherry blossom pattern

I have contributed a framed paper cut piece to the silent auction. Inspired by the Kimono theme of this year's fundraiser I chose a Japanese textile pattern of cherry blossoms, and hand cut the design from black card stock. The photo above is a detail of this piece.

30 Days of Drawing

I began a 30 day drawing project on the 1st of May as a way to stimulate my creativity because I'd been feeling a bit stuck. It was something I'd been thinking about for a few weeks and the beginning of the month seemed like the perfect time to start. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I chose a fresh sketchbook and made the only requirement to do something in it every day for thirty days.

I had intended to do so many different things but the project has turned into a series of repetitive pencil drawings, dictated by what seems to work best with the sketchbook paper.  This is not a new thing for me, but it is helping me work through ideas. What I love most about the whole thing is that the project forces me to make time each day to dedicate to drawing. Almost thirty days later, I have a sketchbook half-filled with drawings and a habit I am hoping to continue beyond the end of the month. I'm such a completionist that I'll probably keep going until the entire thing is filled...

You can view two videos on my blog showing the inside of the sketchbook »
