AFTER THE GLITTER FADES - NOTS 27 AFTERWORD

NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES - the largest and most beloved STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world - returned to New York City's IRVING PLAZA on May 5 for another sold-out edition. NOTS 27 paid homage to Stevie's many Hollywood themes, beginning with the beloved title song GARBO. The performers and crew delivered one of the most visually stunning, performance-rich editions to date and the audience was the best dressed ever. Visit the NOTS FACEBOOK page and YOUTUBE CHANNEL for full show reportage, including this JEREMY ROCKLIN edit of show highlights. And the Love Remains...

MOVEMENT RESEARCH FESTIVAL SPRING 2017
"SURPRISE! SURPRISE(!) SURPRISE/! SURPRISE"

Brooklyn friends, join THE JACKIE FACTORY this Thursday, when JOHNNY DYNELL appears with JACKIE 60 MCs PAUL ALEXANDER and CHI CHI VALENTI for an MC workshop and performance at the dance/performance festival MOVEMENT RESEARCH. Curators LAURIE BERG, MONSTAH BLACK and AMY KHOSHBIN envision  "Inside Out Upside Down" as "paying homage to our roots and the importance of coming together in this political battleground. What is the role of the club in activating a community and creating a cross- cultural blend?" TENDAYI KUUMBA, LARISSA VELEZ- JACKSON and MR. RICHARD KENNEDY blend movement and sound in a series of performances that move into the 9 PM workshop led by the famed JACKIE 60 MCs with DJ JOHNNY DYNELL. JACKIE 60, a nightclub hybrid that blurs the lines between performance and party, will be representing their unique brand of dynamic space in the lounge as DJ ADAM RHODES from Papi Juice pumps up the back room into a dance party with the Jackie 60 MCs and DJ Dynell taking it over (the top) to evening's end.

MC WORKSHOP:
The MC workshop with the original Jackie 60 producers, DJ and MCs teaches the history of their particular style of MC'ing, one that engages a stream of consciousness,  musical structure, and the all-important relationship between the MC and the DJ. Learn how to pull the audience's focus to different objects and people in the space, how to read the room and the narrative arc of the night's energy. It's a performative way of hosting, and the skills learned in the MC workshop are being put into practice as you participate.

BEGINNING FRIDAY JUNE 30
FIRED UP!
Johnny Dynell Spins the Gay Nineties

House Music was born in Chicago in the mid Eighties and brought to NY by WAREHOUSE DJ FRANKIE KNUCKLES to LARRY LEVAN at the mythic PARADISE GARAGE. JOHNNY DYNELL, spinning Fridays and Saturdays at THE TUNNEL, helped introduce this new sound in 1986, and brought his own brand of it to the newborn JACKIE 60 four years later. Now he returns to this signature Dynell early Nineties soundtrack for a new monthly - FIRED UP! Johnny joins FRANKIE SHARP, ANA MANTRONIC and MICHEAL T on the revolving Friday roster at CLUB CUMMING, the new East Village nightspot from ALLEN CUMMING, DANIEL NARDICIO and DARREN DRYDEN. (Though it officially opens in September, the club is already in transition this Summer at the former EASTERN BLOC.) FIRED UP! opens Friday June 30 and continues the last Friday of every month. For a sample of this sound listen to Johnny's THAT JACKIE FEELING podcast on his Soundcloud Page.
