Prom Girls: A North American Rite of Passage

Author:

Lesley Fletcher is a Montreal artist and a writer, dividing her time between the two crafts while juggling the complexities involved with marketing and promotion for both her books and multiple art pieces.

My latest release September 2016 - 'Crystal Ball Persuasion' was two and a half years in the making and is my first full-length novel. It was an exhilarating experience to research, write and finally complete it. In short the story is about two women, who with the guidance of a premonition and gypsy readings set out on an adventurous page turning journey filled with serendipity with intuition leading the way and guiding them to destiny and renewed lives.

'5 Pillars of the Gypsy' is my heart displayed on pages. It combines art and verse and stands as a mixture of spiritualism and emotion. Each poem tells a story. Each story is meant to awaken and inspire the inner you to add meaning to your own events in life.

My voice is that of humanity and so I have written my books to encompass emotions and challenges that face everyday people. My focus is on connection and listening and being part of a gentler world. Travel has played a major role in all my books, blog posts and everyday life.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." Saint Augustine

Prom Girls: A North American rite of Passage

PROM GIRLS is full of surprises and adventure captured in the language of today’s youth. Encompassing four distinct paths, with focus on the year of being seventeen and graduating from High School, the reader is lured in all the glory, fun and realism of the celebration of youth. While reading the stories, it is inevitable that the reader will be at once inspired by memories of the past and anticipation of the future. In Prom Girls, the celebration of High School graduation is visited from the beginning of the final high school year until the Grand Event, with snippets of past events, multi-cultural references and some of the author’s personal encounters. It is written in a way that addresses questions and speaks directly to the reader. From the nostalgic, faceless characters of over fifty original watercolour images to the realistic exploits and escapades of Prom Night , Lesley Fletcher captures the imagination and hearts of the very young and the very old. The memories that are gained at seventeen years old last a lifetime.

"I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It left me wanting to know more about Baller, Pinkand their friends. The delightful, whimsical illustrations were a great addition to the story line and brought memories of my own prom in Montreal."

"What a wonderful story - well written and capturing the confusion and problems all teens seem to face. As an adult it was a revealing story in understanding the importance of the anxious feelings your own teen might face. I recommend this story for all alike - teens going to their prom and adults for the memories Fletcher captures very well."
