Landschaft des Jahres Senegal/Gambia: Auf zu neuen Ufern!
Begleitet von einem bunten Rahmenprogramm wird im Jänner 2018 die erste afrikanische Landschaft des Jahres offiziell eröffnet. Mamadou Mbodji, Präsident des Naturfreunde Afrika Netzwerks, und die Afrika-Referentin der NFI Ingeborg Pint waren Anfang des Monats in der Region unterwegs, um die für die Jahre 2018 und 2019 geplanten Aktivitäten mit den Menschen vor Ort abzustimmen.
Die Landschaft des Jahres Senegal/Gambia nimmt als erste auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent verwirklichte Landschaft des Jahres eine besondere Stellung ein. Sie soll als Pilotprojekt der Naturfreundebewegung veranschaulichen, wie internationale Solidarität anhand konkreter Aktivitäten in der Region gelebt und nachhaltig verankert werden kann.
Die ausgewählte Region liegt am Rande der Sahelzone und ist schon heute durch die Folgen des Klimawandels gezeichnet. Das Thema Klimagerechtigkeit spielt daher auch in den geplanten Aktivitäten eine zentrale Rolle. Mit begleitenden Aktivitäten in Europa soll eine breite Beteiligung europäischer NaturfreundInnen erreicht werden. Und Naturfreunde-Reisen in die Region sollen ein persönliches Kennenlernen und einen intensiven Austausch ermöglichen und den sanften Tourismus in der Region unterstützen, der für die Bevölkerung eine wichtige Einkommensquelle darstellt.

G20 Protestwelle & Bannermeer
Am 2. Juli, ein paar Tage vor dem G20-Gipfel, werden Zehntausende Menschen in Hamburg ein starkes Signal für den politischen Wandel setzen und sich zu einer friedlichen „Welle des Protestes“ versammeln – eine Welle für Klimaschutz, für fairen Handel, für soziale Gerechtigkeit und Demokratie weltweit.
Mit einem "Bannermeer" soll der G20-Gipfel mit politischen Forderungen und Botschaften aus allen Ecken der Welt konfrontiert werden – auch mit deiner! BürgerInnen und AktivistInnen werden deine Botschaften beim Protestmarsch zum G20-Treffen tragen. Du kannst die Aktion unterstützen, indem du ein Banner mit deinen Forderungen/Mitteilungen malst und es an das Büro der NaturFreunde Deutschlands in Berlin schickst. Die Banner werden schon im Vorfeld des Protestmarsches über Social Media geteilt und auch bei einer internationalen Ausstellung gezeigt, die bis zum Ende des Gipfels dauern wird. Internationaler Tag der Biologischen Vielfalt 2017: Biodiversität & nachhaltiger Tourismus
Am 22. Mai war Internationaler Tag der biologischen Vielfalt. Anlässlich des diesjährigen „Internationalen Jahres für nachhaltigen Tourismus für Entwicklung“ lautet das Motto „Biodiversität und nachhaltiger Tourismus“. Damit soll aufgezeigt werden, dass ein nachhaltiger Tourismus sowohl die Erhaltung der Biodiversität unterstützen als auch die regionale Wirtschaft stärken kann.
Der Schutz terrestrischer Ökosysteme und die Erhaltung der Biodiversität sind auch ein Ziel der Agenda 2030 (Ziel 15). Wie kann der Tourismus dazu beitragen, dieses Ziel zu erreichen? Auf dieser Plattform gehen ExpertInnen von NGOs und wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen der Frage nach, wie ein nachhaltiger Tourismus zur Erreichung jedes einzelnen der 17 Ziele der Agenda 2030 beitragen kann.

Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli | Präsident der Naturfreunde Schweiz
Seit 13. Mai 2017 steht Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli an der Spitze der Schweizer Naturfreunde. Der Bildungspolitiker und ehemalige Regierungsrat startet sein Amt mit großen Plänen. Im Gespräch erzählt Urs von seinen Beweggründen für sein Engagement für die Naturfreunde und von seinen Vorstellungen für die Zukunft des Verbandes.
Du blickst auf eine langjährige politische Karriere zurück. Was hat dich dazu bewegt, dich nun für die Naturfreunde zu engagieren?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli: Ich leiste als Privatperson schon lange einen Beitrag zu einer intakten Mitwelt und bin seit den 1980er-Jahren Mitglied bei den Naturfreunden. Zu diesem Verein habe ich einen dreifachen Bezug. Einen geschichtlichen, weil die Naturfreunde aus der Arbeiterbewegung entstanden sind, wo ich auch herkomme. Einen sportlichen, weil ich mich für den Sport engagiere und gerne wandere. Und ich habe einen Wertebezug, weil ich meine, dass Freunde der Natur für diese auch Verantwortung übernehmen müssen.
Die Naturfreunde werden von vielen immer noch als reiner Freizeit- und Wanderverein wahrgenommen. Die politische Arbeit hat in den einzelnen Landesverbänden einen unterschiedlich hohen Stellenwert. Ebenso werden auf nationaler Ebene ganz unterschiedliche Themen angesprochen – von Atomkraft über Freihandel bis hin zu Wegefreiheit. Was sind deine Vorstellungen für die politische Arbeit der Naturfreunde?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli: Für mich ist es unverzichtbar, dass sich die Naturfreundebewegung bei politischen Fragen zu Natur und Landschaft wieder einmischt. Damit meine ich ausdrücklich nicht, dass die Naturfreunde zu einer politischen Partei werden oder sich nicht von einer solchen instrumentalisieren lassen. Aber die Naturfreunde müssen klar wieder ein politisches Profil erhalten und sich als Verbündete von Organisationen positionieren, die sich für nachhaltige Entwicklung und „Freunde der Natur“ engagieren.

Freiwilligenarbeit für den Wald. Die Naturfreunde Tschechien haben im Mai einen vier-tägigen Freiwilligeneinsatz im Wald organisiert, und zwar in Orlické hory, den „Wäldern des Adlers“, im Norden von Tschechien. Rund 30 TeilnehmerInnen von mehreren tschechischen Naturfreunde-Gruppen waren mit Begeisterung dabei. Sie haben nicht nur bei der Aufforstung und Waldpflege geholfen, sondern nebenbei auch neue FreundInnen gewonnen und Geld für ihre Vereinigung gesammelt. Fakten auf den Tisch! Am 21. Juni besucht die Initiative „Sense about Science“ das Europäische Parlament. Unter dem Motto „Evidence Matters EU“ möchte sie den EU-Mitgliedern und EU-KommissarInnen klar machen, dass den BürgerInnen Fakten und fundierte Informationen wichtig sind. Sie erwarten, dass diese offengelegt, gehört und öffentlich diskutiert werden. Alle EU-BürgerInnen sind eingeladen, am 21. Juni dabei zu sein. --->
Wettbewerb Climate Star 2018. Unter dem Motto „Vielfalt im lokalen Klimaschutz“ können sich Städte und Gemeinden mit Maßnahmen und Aktionen zu Themen von Energie und Mobilität über Ernährung und nachhaltige Beschaffung bis hin zu Klimagerechtigkeit und Anpassung an den Klimawandel bewerben. European Natura 2000 Award. Die Bewerbungsrunde um den europäischen Natura-2000-Preis, mit dem hervorragende Leistungen im Bereich Naturschutz ausgezeichnet werden, ist in ihrem vierten Jahr eröffnet. Die Einreichfrist läuft bis 29. September 2017. --->

Landscape of the Year Senegal / Gambia: Heading for new shores!
Accompanied by a colourful social programme, the first African Landscape of the Year will be officially inaugurated in January 2018. At the beginning of this month, Mamadou Mbodji, President of the African Naturefriends Network, and Ingeborg Pint, NFI consultant for Africa, travelled the region to coordinate the activities planned for the years 2018 and 2019 with locals.
The Landscape of the Year Senegal/Gambia is the first Landscape of the Year on the African continent and thus assumes a special position. As a pilot project of the Naturefriends movement, it aims to illustrate how international solidarity can be put into practice in specific activities in the region and thus be sustainably established.
The selected region lies on the edge of the Sahel zone and is already marked by the consequences of climate change. This is why climate justice plays a vital part in the planned activities. Accompanying activities in Europe aim at a broad involvement of European Naturefriends. Furthermore, Naturefriends journeys to the region intend to enable personal encounters and intensive exchange as well as foster gentle tourism in the region, which constitutes an important source of income for the local population. G20 Wave of Protest & Sea of Banners
On July 2th, a few days ahead of the G20 summit, tens of thousands of people will send a strong signal for policy change and come together in a peaceful "wave of protest": a wave for climate protection, for fair trade, for social justice and democracy worldwide. With a „Sea of Banners“ the G20 summit will be confronted with political demands and messages from all corners of the world – including yours. Citizens and activists will carry your messages to the G20 meeting place during a protest march. To make this happen, please paint a banner with your demands/messages and send it to the German Naturefriends-office in Berlin. They will share them in advance via social media and they will also plan to include them in an international exhibition that will last until the summit’s end. International Day for Biological Diversity 2017: Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism
Every year, on 22 may the UN is celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity. 2017 the theme is „Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism“. This theme has been chosen to coincide with the observance of 2017 as the International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development. The celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity under the theme “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism” is an opportunity to raise awareness of the important contribution of sustainable tourism both to economic growth and to the conservation of biodiversity.
The objectives of halting biodiversity loss and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems are included in the Agenda 2030 (Sustainable Development Goal No. 15). How can tourism contribute to achieve this goal? Read on in the Online Compendium „Transforming Tourism“. Across all the SDGs authors in this compendium explore what they see as the major current challenges that today’s practice of tourism poses.

Naturefriends talk
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli | President of Naturefriends Switzerland
On 13 May 2017, Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli took office as president of Naturefriends Switzerland. The education policy-maker and former member of the cantonal government has big plans for his time as president. In our conversation, Urs talks about the reasons for his involvement with Naturefriends and his ideas for the future of the organisation.
You look back on a long political career. What made you get involved with Naturefriends now?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli: As a private person, I have been making a contribution to a sound environment for a long time, and I've been a member of the Naturefriends organisation since the 1980s. I have a triple connection to this association. A historical connection, because Naturefriends arose from the labour movement, where my roots are, too. A sports connection, for I'm committed to sports and I love to go hiking. And a connection of values, because I think that friends of nature also need to take responsibility for the latter.
Many people still perceive Naturefriends solely as a leisure-time and hiking organisation. Political work is of different importance to the various national organisations. At the same time, different topics are important at the national level from nuclear energy over free trade to right of way. What are your ideas on Naturefriends' political work?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli: I think it is crucial for the Naturefriends movement to intervene in political issues on nature and the environment. I explicitly don't say that Naturefriends should become a political party or be instrumentalised by one. But Naturefriends clearly need to regain a political profile and position themselves as allies of organisations that champion sustainable development and stand up for "Friends of Nature".

Tour d`Horizon Senegal/The Gambia – Come and discover the Landscape of the Year 2018/2019! (January 11 – 25, 2018). On the occasion of the Opening event of the first African Landscape of the Year – Senegal/The Gambia, Naturefriends International, in cooperation with local Naturefriends and their partners, is going to organise a trip to Senegal and The Gambia. Forestry Volunteering. Friends of Nature Czechia organized a four-day-long event „Forestry volunteering“ event in May, which took place in Orlické hory („Eagle Mountains“) in the middlenorth of Czechia. Nearly thirty participants from several local groups of Friends of Nature Czechia took part in the event motivated to meet new friends, to spend the weekend together in a not-so-well known region, to help the forest and to make some money for their association.

Living Land. The public consultation has come to a close and the final results are in: 258,708 citizens and 600 civil organisations and businesses – among them NFI – have called for a radical overhaul of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). --->
Evidence matters EU. On 21 June, the organisation „Sense about Science“ is going to the European parliament to tell its members and European commissioners that evidence matters to the public, and that they expect them to listen to evidence and discuss it openly. All citizens can join! --->
The 2018 Climate Star competition. Under the motto “Diversity in local climate action”, cities and towns can apply with their initiatives on topics ranging from energy and mobility to sustainable food and green procurement through to climate justice and climate change adaptation. Submissions are possible until the 11 August 2017. --->
European Natura 2000 Award. The 2018 edition of the Natura 2000 Award was launched on 15 May 2017 and promises to be every bit as exciting and inspirational as the previous three editions. The deadline for submitting applications is the 29 September 2017. --->

Paysage de l’Année Sénégal/Gambie : En route vers de nouveaux horizons !
Le lancement officiel du premier Paysage de l’Année africain (LINK), avec animations et activités diverses, aura lieu en janvier 2018. Début mai, Mamadou Mbodji, Président du Réseau Africain des Amis de la Nature et Ingeborg Pint, responsable Afrique de l’IAN, ont voyagé dans la région, pour concerter les activités prévues pour 2018 et 2019 avec les responsables locaux.
Étant le premier sur le continent africain, le Paysage de l’Année Sénégalo-gambien est particulièrement important. Projet pilote du mouvement des Amis de la Nature, il doit montrer comment la solidarité internationale peut être vécue et établie durablement dans la région, à travers la mise en œuvre d’activités concrètes.
La région choisie est située aux abords du Sahel et porte déjà des marques nettes du changement climatique. La justice climatique figurera donc parmi les thèmes majeurs du projet. Des actions accompagnantes en Europe devront assurer une large participation d’Amis et Amies de la Nature européens. Des voyages d’Amis de la Nature permettront de découvrir la région, de faire connaissance avec les populations et de promouvoir le tourisme durable, importante source de revenus des populations. G20 Vague de protestation & Océan de bannières
Le 2 juin, quelques jours avant le Sommet G20, des dizaines de milliers de personnes donneront un fort signal pour le changement politique et se réuniront en une « vague de protestation » pacifique – pour la protection du climat, le commerce équitable, la justice sociale et la démocratie dans le monde entier.
Un « océan de bannières » confrontera le Sommet G20 avec des doléances politiques et des messages des quatre coins du monde – parmi lesquels aussi les tiens ! Citoyens et citoyennes, militants et militantes porteront tes messages dans la marche de protestation vers le Sommet G20.Tu peux soutenir l’action et peindre une bannière, illustrant tes demandes/messages et l‘envoyer au Siège des Amis de la Nature d’Allemagne à Berlin. Les bannières seront partagées sur les médias sociaux dès avant la marche de protestation et présentées dans une exposition internationale qui durera jusqu`à la fin du Sommet. Journée internationale de la diversité biologique 2017 : Biodiversité et tourisme durable
La Journée internationale de la diversité biologique a été célébrée le 22 mai. Vu que l’année 2017 a été déclarée « Année internationale du tourisme durable pour le développement », le thème de cette année est « Biodiversité et tourisme durable ». Ceci pour montrer que le tourisme durable peut contribuer à sauvegarder la diversité biologique tout comme il peut promouvoir les économies régionales.
La protection des écosystèmes terrestres et la sauvegarde de la diversité biologique sont aussi un objectif de l’Agenda 2030 (Objectif 15). Comment le tourisme peut-il contribuer à atteindre cet objectif ? Pour plus d’informations lisez le compendium en ligne « Transforming tourism ». Sur cette plateforme des spécialistes d’ONG et d’institutions scientifiques analysent la question de savoir comment le tourisme durable peut contribuer à atteindre chacun des 17 objectifs de l’Agenda 2030.

Des Amis et Amies de la Nature en conversation
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli | Président des Amis de la Nature Suisse
Depuis le 13 mai 2017 Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli est président des Amis de la Nature Suisse. Politicien de l’éducation et ancien Conseiller d’État, il a des plans ambitieux pour l’exercice de sa fonction. Dans notre entretien, Urs parle de ce qui le motive dans son engagement pour les Amis de la Nature et de ses idées pour l’avenir de l’association.
Tu as parcouru une longue carrière politique. Qu’est-ce qui t’a amené à t’engager maintenant pour les Amis de la Nature ?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli : En tant qu’individu je m’engage depuis longtemps pour un milieu intact et suis membre des Amis de la Nature depuis les années 1980. Mes rapports à cette association sont trois. D’une part le rapport historique, parce que les Amis de la Nature sont issus du mouvement ouvrier, où j’ai aussi mes racines. D’autre part le rapport sportif, parce que je m’engage pour le sport et aime la randonnée. Et finalement un rapport au niveau des valeurs, parce que je pense que des Amis de la Nature doivent aussi assumer une responsabilité pour celle-ci.
Beaucoup considèrent toujours les Amis de la Nature comme une simple association de loisirs et de randonnées. L’action politique n’est pas présente au même degré dans les différentes fédérations nationales. Et au plan national des thèmes très variés sont abordés – du nucléaire par le libre échange à la liberté d’accès aux chemins. Quelles sont tes idées pour l’action politique des Amis de la Nature ?
Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli : Il est pour moi indispensable que le mouvement des Amis de la Nature s’ingère de nouveau dans la politique en matière de nature et de paysages. Je ne veux explicitement pas dire que les Amis de la Nature doivent devenir un parti politique ou se laisser instrumentaliser par un parti. Mais ils doivent se donner de nouveau un profil politique clair et se positionner comme les alliés d’organisations s’engageant pour le développement durable et la sauvegarde de la nature.

Nouvelles brèves – calendrier – informations internes
Tour d`Horizon Sénégal/Gambie – Le Paysage de l’Année 2018/2019 vous invite ! (11 – 25 janvier 2018). À l’occasion du lancement du premier Paysage de l’Année africain Sénégal-Gambie, l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature, en collaboration avec les Amis de la Nature locaux et leurs partenaires, organise du 11 au 25 janvier 2018 un voyage au Sénégal et en Gambie, auquel tous les Amis et toutes les Amies de la Nature sont cordialement conviés ! Les bénévoles pour la forêt. Les Amis de la Nature de Tchéquie ont organisé en mai une activité de bénévoles de quatre jours dans la forêt d’Orlické hory, la « forêt de l’aigle », dans le Nord du pays. Une trentaine de participant/e/s de plusieurs groupements des Amis de la Nature tchèques y ont participé avec enthousiasme. Ils n’ont pas seulement aidé à reboiser et à entretenir la forêt, mais en même temps trouvé de nouveaux amis et amies et collecté des fonds pour leur association. Sous la devise « Evidence matters EU » il souhaite faire comprendre aux membres de l’UE et aux Commissaires européens que des faits et des informations fondées sont importants pour les citoyens et les citoyennes. Ils/elles attendent que ces faits et informations soient mis sur table, écoutés et discutés en public. Tous et toutes, citoyens et citoyennes de l’UE sont invité/e/s à participer à la rencontre du 21 juin. --->
Concours Climate Star 2018. Sous la devise « La diversité dans la protection locale du climat », des villes et des communes peuvent participer avec des actions et mesures sur les thèmes : énergie, mobilité, alimentation, marchés durables, justice climatique et adaptation au changement climatique. Des projets peuvent être soumis d’ici au 11 août 2017. --->
Prix européen Natura 2000. Les candidatures pour la quatrième édition du Prix européen Natura 2000, récompensant l’excellence en matière de protection de la nature, sont ouvertes. Le délai pour le dépôt des candidatures est le 29 septembre 2017. --->
