Life & Ministry Update

Childlike Wonder

In three months our daughter will be two. I can hardly believe how much she has changed, even just in the last few months. I was watching a video yesterday of her agonizing over her oranges as she tried to skewer them with her fork to eat like a big kid would do. She chattered and moaned in frustration, but had no words to communicate her needs. Last night we sat down to eat, and she picked up her own fork with ease and pointed at my place setting and said "hashi", the word for chopsticks in Japanese. Not only is she now feeding herself with forks and hashi, but she is mastering English, and learning Japanese. She never ceases to amaze us with her growing and discovery.

I love watching her grow up and discover the world. Is there anything more precious than childlike wonder? Nothing has the ability to make me wonder like creation. I love that I grew up discovering outdoor creation. Last week I was crouched on a white sandy beach in tropical Okinawa, examining seashells and finding crabs and beautiful bits of coral. It brought me right back to times of exploring a very different cool, steel gray, gravely beach surrounded with mountains and eagles soaring overhead. I am as equally fascinated by the minuscule world under your feet at the beach now as I was then. I could spend hours beach combing!

I think we need those times to wonder at God's glory in His spectacular creation. There is as much to wonder at from the mountain tops as there is in examining the a square foot of sand and shells at the beach. May His creation always compel us to give Him His due praise and glory!

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all our friends and family. We miss you all!

Travels in 2017

This year's travels started last week with our trip to Okinawa for the Japanese Christian Church convention. We enjoyed our time and had the opportunity to meet Christians from southern Japan as well as get to know some missionaries a little better. We were also able to spend some time to relax and rejuvenate away from the big city. It was truly a blessing.

We have had several special offerings which we have applied to our travel fund, but we are still saving for our next trips.  Please pray with us as we continue to make plans and raise funds for our travels this year!

Marriage Course

This month Machida Church of Christ began co-hosting a Marriage Course with another local church congregation who has previously hosted the course at the church building. The course is held once a week for seven weeks, and is setup to be like a mini date for couples. Dessert is served and couples are seated at their own table so they can freely talk and share between video sessions.

The Japanese, like Americans are busy with work and kids school and hobby schedules. We are glad for this time dedicated to reconnect with their spouses and invest in their marriage relationship. We are excited for this opportunity for ourselves and church members, as well as the opportunity to reach out to couples in the community. Please pray for couples to be able to set aside the time to attend the course over the next few weeks, and that the families would be blessed and draw closer to God though this marriage study.
