Planting
Plans laid earlier this year to beautify the town will shortly be coming to fruition. In early June, voluntary groups from across the parish will be collecting bedding plants, supplied by Bradford Council and paid for by Bingley Town Council, to enhance their floral displays in Cottingley, Crossflatts, Gilstead, Micklethwaite and Myrtle Park in central Bingley. Plants include begonias, geraniums, dahlias and marigolds. Also in the centre of town, Bingley Bloomers, a group of gardening enthusiasts from Bingley WI, are taking over responsibility for the five planters in the market square from Bradford Council.
To add to this, Bingley Town Council has contracted Carlton Nurseries of Cottingley to provide floral displays in the centre of the town. In the week of 12th June, baskets will be appearing on various lamp-posts and barriers on Main Street and some surrounding roads, and there will also be some new tubs and planting in the area by the Arts Centre. A tiered planter is planned for Queen’s Court.

Keeping Bingley clean
Bingley’s Green and Clean activists have been out in force recently, with further litter picks to tackle rubbish.
On 29th April, a successful event in Gilstead saw a band of determined volunteers range over the moor, where there were some unusual finds. Apart from the customary food-related litter, items such as a bicycle, some metal fencing, a plastic barrier and various redundant car parts were successfully removed from their resting places.
An enthusiastic group of pupils and staff from Bingley Grammar School joined town councillors on 8th May to address the continuing littering problem in the cemetery and Bailey Hills area. Twenty sacks of rubbish were collected in just over an hour!
Councillors John Goode and Edwina Simpson and Jenny Woodward of Bingley Green Dog Walkers ran an assembly for pupils at Cottingley Primary on 22nd May on the subject of littering. However, the main focus was on the pupils who had taken part in a litter pick in Cottingley on 3rd March, who were presented with certificates by Doug Threlfall from Cottingley Cornerstone.
Our next community litter pick is on Saturday 3rd June, meeting at 2pm outside Crossflatts Post Office. All are welcome! All equipment provided, although wear old clothes and bring your own gloves if you prefer. Further details from Cllrs Sara Hardman (07856 323933) or John Goode (07703 456792).

Forum on 10th June
A Green and Clean Forum will be taking place from 1000 to 1200 on Saturday 10th June at Cardigan House, Ferncliffe Road, Bingley.
The event will build on all the useful ideas, information and actions that came out of the Plants and Green Spaces Roadshow held in January. It will also provide an update on floral matters, railway station adoptions, and various litter clearance and dog fouling initiatives, and will discuss a way forward for future meetings.

Puppy pack with vets
The Council and Bingley Green Dog Walkers have been working alongside local veterinary practices to help promote the importance of safe disposal of dog faeces.
A colourful poster, stickers and other printed materials, sponsored by a grant from the Council, have been produced for inclusion in ‘puppy packs’. These are put together by the veterinary practices for distribution to new dog owners to raise awareness of their responsibility to help keep our streets and public spaces clean and tidy. The message is that dog poo should be bagged and then simply put in the ordinary rubbish bins provided by Bradford Council (not recycling bins).
Market survey
As a first step towards revitalising Bingley Market, the Town Council is carrying out a survey - look out for details on our website and social media pages as well as survey forms and posting boxes at key locations including Eldwick Post Office, Cottingley Cornerstone and the Five Rise Locks Café. The deadline for the return of completed surveys is Friday 30th June.

Neighbourhood Plan
A well-attended meeting was held on Tuesday 30th May to discuss whether the town should work to establish a Neighbourhood Plan. Following positive responses, the matter will now go to the full council meeting on 27th June in order to set in motion the next steps.
Extensive consultation will be essential for the success of the project, which will help us to shape the development and growth of our area and is likely to take 2-3 years to complete. Anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to contact the Clerk for further information.

Next Town Council meeting
The next meeting of the Town Council is at 6.30pm on Tuesday, June 27th at Bingley Baptist Church Hall, Clyde Street, Bingley. Councillors will be available from 5.45-6.15pm for an informal surgery.
