 Ex Libris Primo Coming to UAB Libraries
UAB Libraries is in the process of moving to a new catalog and information discovery tool. Primo from Ex Libris provides:
 We’ll still be using our existing catalogs at Sterne and Lister Hill during the transition process. And you, our users, will have the opportunity to test the new system and provide feedback on issues as well. Stay tuned for signs in the libraries and more information in our newsletters and websites coming soon.

Public Health Information Literacy Certificate Course
Public health students and researchers! The certificate course in public health information literacy piloted last summer has been revised and approved for the Summer 2017 semester! Led by Kay Hogan Smith, UAB Libraries Liaison to the School of Public Health, the weekly classes focus on everything from advanced searching in PubMed and Embase to epidemiological resources and locating test instruments, searching for systematic reviews and related areas of interest, such as psychology resources and bibliographic citation management. The series of eight modules are scheduled for Wednesday evenings (5 – 6 p.m.) in the summer, beginning June 7 and ending July 26. You may attend as many or as few classes as you like, although a minimum of 5 classes is required to receive the certificate (including sessions 1 and 2, which are required). This time, the classes will be presented online only via GoToTraining. Click here to see the class schedule and for links to online registration. Attendance and homework/quiz participation will count toward the Pass/Fail grades for each session and awarding of the certificate. This is a Category B Certificate Course, approved by UAB administration. Join us this summer!

UAB Libraries at Student Services Fair
Some of the best times our librarians have during the summer months are at the Services Fairs for freshmen and transfer students. A group of librarians and library staff, coordinated by our Student Success Librarian, Dana Hettich, attend approximately 32 sessions over three months. The fairs provide fantastic opportunities to meet and greet students new to campus. In addition to information about our services and hours, we also take the time to give students information about their liaison librarians, which, surprisingly, even the world-weary freshmen are excited to hear.

Looking for a Little R&R?
You can browse the Cafe Collection at Sterne Library. It's a rotating collection of best sellers and award winners that are free for check out to the UAB Community.
You can also grab a novel from Lister Hill Library’s Leisure Reading Collection, now shelved on the 2nd floor of LHL. Magazines are located in a spinner rack on the 1st floor by the new dog bone computer carrels. Please return them when you are done. Donations are always welcome.
Sterne Library also has a small collection of DVD videos available for check out for up to one week by UAB students, faculty, and staff. You can ask for help finding titles in the Reference Department.

Starbucks in Sterne Library will be closed for the summer. Starbucks at the Hill Student Center will remain open. Check for hours here.
