BAY AREA FOOD NEWS
The food delivery app Sprig has closed. In an email sent to customers on Friday, CEO Gagan Biyani said, "We apologize to those of you who relied on Sprig for daily meals, and to our extended Sprig team for how this will impact them." Sprig employed approximately 200 people in San Francisco, including part-time staff, and all employees will receive two months' severance. "No question, I’m sad that the Sprig model did not work out - but the food delivery space on the whole is growing," said Biyani.
A KQED documentary titled "American Masters - Jacques Pepin: The Art of Craft" premiered last week and will continue to run on the public television channel. Narrated by Stanley Tucci, the film explores the chef's entire life, including his career as a KQED cooking show host. Pepin's documentary is the fist of four that KQED is producing. The other "Chef's Flight" movies chronicle the lives and careers James Beard, Julia Child, and Berkeley's Alice Waters.
Gott's Roadside plans to add three new Bay Area locations, bringing the company's number of local outposts to seven. In July, Gott's will open a spot at San Francisco International Airport, and in the fall the restaurant company will open locations in Greenbrae and Walnut Creek. "Viewing the world through the lens of one brand, I think the polarized political climate has certainly pushed people toward more comfort food or at least environments where people feel comfortable eating," said Gott's Roadside CEO Clay Walker.
