What's New?

Launch of the new St Mary’s Centre

Enjoy some of the pictures from our fabulous Food Market which launched our fundraising campaign (yes, we really did make £3622) and gave us the opportunity to consult with local people about our exciting plans.

This was followed by a consultation evening with the architect. If you didn’t manage to pop in please have a look at the plans displayed at the back of the New Church.

We were treated to both Hackney Children’s Choir and Hackney Community Gospel Choir at our Foodie weekend. If you want to hear the children’s choir again, they are singing at St Paul’s Cathedral on June 13th at 7:00 pm.

And if you fancy joining the Gospel Choir, they meet each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at Parish Hall Nuttal Street, N1 5LR. It is run by Anu Omideyi, director of the Reapers Choir (BBC Songs of Praise Gospel finalists 2014). You are welcome to just turn up.

Christian Aid:
It was great to welcome the Archdeacon Liz Adekunle to lead our worship at the start of Christian Aid week. Thanks to all those who collected in our area for this wonderful charity. We raised a total of £824.

Did you know that a Meditation Group has been meeting at St Mary’s for the last 15 years? Why not check it out? One group meets on a Tuesday morning under the spire (10.30-11.30 am) and the other on a Wednesday evening in the church (8 -9 pm)

What's Coming Up

Pentecost Sunday June 4th. We’ll be celebrating it with a Joint Service in the Big Church at 10.30am. And do add a dash of red, yellow or orange to your attire - get into the spirit of celebration!

The next Joint Service will be on July 9th when we celebrate our link with the church in Tete, Mozambique.

It’s that time of year and Stoke Newington Literary Festival is almost upon us. Don’t miss out on all it has to offer.

Hackney Migrant Centre will be closed on June 7th and 14th whilst the staff and volunteers work on forward planning.

HMC had a stall at our Food Market, offering a typical HMC meal plus a fabulous chocolate and beetroot cake.

Hackney foodbank is looking to build a team of 6-8 volunteer drivers to donate a 2-3 hours of their time each week to help with the foodbank operations and logistics. Hackney foodbank feeds 60-80 families a week in Hackney at our four distribution centres.
They write: 'We rely on the support of volunteers to deliver bulk food orders to our four distribution centres each week and to collect from our permanent collection points on a regular basis. You could use your own vehicle or our new Hackney foodbank van. Can you help or know someone who can? Please phone Colleen on 02072542464 or email: volunteers@hackney.foodbank.org.uk.
