This Weekend: PRISM Quartet and Joe Lovano at the Painted Bride and LPR

Two years in the making, the PRISM Quartet's collaboration with jazz legend Joe Lovano hits this weekend in Philly at the Painted Bride on Saturday, and in NYC at (le) poisson rouge on Sunday. Concert info and tickets are available at www.prismquartet.com.

The program features Joe on tenor, alto, G mezzo and baritone saxophones, gongs, and drums in the world premiere of of his epic new work, “Super Sonix.” “Super Sonix” is rooted in Joe's past collaborations with Ornette Coleman and Gunther Schuller, and his work with sax sections in bands led by Woody Herman, Mel Lewis, Carla Bley, and Charlie Haden. The concert also features world premieres of “Forbidden Drive” by PRISM co-founder and 2016 Pew Fellow Matthew Levy, and “Refraction” by Reiny Rolock, winner of the annual PRISM/Walden School Commissioning Award - plus music by Emma O'Halloran and Robert Carl.
