On Monday I was in Manchester attending a meeting at the Institute of Place Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.  I was with 30 other Chief Executives and Managers from Business Improvement Districts across the UK sharing good practice.  We are working to develop a framework for BID’s across the UK to work with the Institute of Place Management to build the skills and capacity of individuals working in BID Companies. As you can imagine the news of Monday evenings atrocious attack resonated even more for me having just left the city on Monday evening. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected. Footfall counters indicate that numbers rose by 17,000 on Friday night thanks to Party in the City. The fine weather and packed programme brought thousands out to enjoy the free programme of entertainment boosting the evening economy and creating a great atmosphere and buzz in the city. Day time trading was more subdued with a challenging trading week overall, however trading was marginally up on the prior week from records submitted to our retailer sales index.

Ooh la la! The Bath Boules Fest and its foodie market takes over Queen Square for a three-day celebration of proper summer fun, June 9-11. The event which is billed as a mini-Glasto and raises money for charity, is free to everyone to attend, but the pre-purchase of tickets is required for people wishing to play.
