June, July & August 2017 Newsletter

It has been a very busy few months with Easter, Mothers Day and ANZAC day now behind us, with winter upon us and the colder weather setting in, it is a perfect time for getting cosy with a nice hot cuppa while reading your newsletter.

Work being undertaken;

As most of you would have now noticed we have recently had the iconic tree in our office removed, therefore our reception area is now located along the verandah, as you can see in the photo above. This is the start of our re vamp to our new updated entry.
The creek on 10th Avenue has been cleared out to allow for new growth.  This is a housekeeping matter that we undertake every few years.
Defibrillator - As you all know we have 2 defibrillators, we have situated these at the most safe and user friendly positions in the village, for your convenience and the security of them, one is located in the office and the other in the community hall in-between 6th and 7th Avenue.  If you need to use them after hours, just call the office number and you will be given access to them.  In all emergencies the first action you should always take is to dial "000".  They will advise you if you need to use a defibrillator.  You would never be denied access to the defibrillators at any time!!
If you haven't already done so, please check out the menu link on our website which show you how easy they are to use.
A big congratulations to Nicole and Michele, who are making a great caretaking team.  We have had great feedback from our residents.  Thanks Girls :)
Even though, on your lease, we have nominated tradespeople for work on your site, you are welcome to get any qualified tradesperson to do any work required.

Pets;
We would like to remind all our residents of the Pet policy we have in the village.  You are NOT allowed to replace your pets after they pass away.  It is also against community rules to buy a new pet after you have moved into the village.  It is very important to read and understand these rules, as you will have to re home any pets brought into the village that shouldn't be here.  Also, your pets should always be walked on a lead, this will also stop pets walking on your neighbours gardens, or consuming any poisons, eg. snail bait, which people like to put on their gardens this time of year.

Housekeeping issues;
Anyone needing a hand around their site - We have a handyman living in the village who would be able to help you out..  Call the office for details.

Compound;
We have decided not to go ahead with the compound upgrade, so charges will not be applied.  The compound will operate as is.  Anything unregistered or not owned by residents must be removed immediately.  Once the compound is full, we will start a waiting list for any new items which need to be stored.

Boom Gate access;
The Boom gates are in fully working condition - this has been frustrating, not only for residents, but also for management.

Car Registration:
This was asked from all our residents, this will enable us to find out who is speeding, or parking illegally in the village, and to enable us to quickly respond to any emergencies arising in the village.  If you haven't already done so, please advise us of your rego number.

Mobility Scooter Ramps;
We have a growing number of mobility scooter ramps that have been placed on curbs in our village, please avoid driving over them as it causes damage not only to the ramps but can damage your car.

A Big Thanks;
A NEW RESIDENTS COMMITTEE - Congratulations to the new committee, we will do our best to have a positive and beneficial relationship with you.  We look forward to our first meeting with you this week.

News:
One of our residents has recently sold a painting to be shipped to New York, well done Valda, you are now a famous international artist and we are very proud to have you as a part of our village community.

Reminders;
-   OFFICE HOURS are 10 to 3 weekdays!
-    Please be aware of one way streets, as we have noticed a few people driving the wrong way.
-    Please make sure you check the NOTICE BOARD as it may have important information on it.
-    To all residents, the outside of your home needs to be kept clean, e.g. washing of and maintaining your site area.
-    Do not feed or leave out food for native animals.  It is illegal and only encourages animals to forage inside our village.

New Residents;
We would like to welcome the new residents to our village;
  • Ron Loffeld - Site 191
  • Janice Mackinnon - Site 242

Sales News

Our sales team have had 42 property inspections in the last 3 months, completing 8 sales in this time, selling 1 new home and 7 preloved homes.  We currently have no pre loved homes for sale and a number of people on our potential purchasers list who are waiting for the right home to come up for sale.  We have 2 new homes on order one of them has already been sold.

As you can see it has been a busy few months for our new sales team, with new sales techniques being implemented including follow up calls and fortnightly feedback for our listed homes.

Library News

The Library is situated in the Community Hall, between 6th and 7th Avenues. It contains a very comprehensive collection of books, magazines, DVDs, games and other items of interest. Residents can borrow and return these as they please; there is no fee and no pressure of time to get the article back to the Library.

A dedicated group cares for the Library, makes sure that the items are looked after and kept clean. The cleaning  staff keep the premises in clean, tidy order so that the Library is a pleasant place to spend some time.

We are always grateful for donations to the library, but please help us by making sure:

·         No videos......we can only throw them in the rubbish bin. Please do that at home.

·         No books smelling of cigarettes....if you are a smoker, bin your unwanted books, please.
No dirty, torn or very old books......there is no room for materials that are not able to be used.

Remember.........if you would not take that book to bed with you, then we are not able to add it to the collection.

We held an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in May and  raised a considerable amount of money for Cancer Research. This is an annual event and many look forward to the lovely feast, the fun games and the generous raffles. This year was particularly well attended and we thank those Village Residents and Staff for their continued support. The total sum raised was $1,200.00 and this is a new record for the generosity of the people who live in our village…..so a big thanks to all who participated, joined in the fun and donated to this deserving cause. Also, we wanted to give a big, warm welcome to those who attended for the first time; to the many newcomers to the Village and to the Community Hall.

Our next big effort will be the Soup and Damper Day, so we will look forward to many guests tucking into the delicious soups that will be on offer. Keep your eye out for the date in early August!

The group meets at 2.00pm, on the first Monday of each month, to discuss what they are reading favourite authors and sometimes books or DVDs that they hate!! We have a nice cuppa and chat, which can get rowdy when we have big differences in taste and opinions. We welcome new members, or casual visitors, so do come along if you wish to spend a little time with other booklovers.

There are also working bees on a regular basis, and those who have time get together to organise the books and make them ready to go on the shelves. Several members re-shelve the returned books as and when they are able to do this little duty.

Lakeside Leisure Village Social Bowls Club

We began the New Year with the first official meeting of the new committee on Monday 13 February. New bowls shirts sponsored by Southern Cross Funeral Directors were worn by the members on the first Scroungers day in February and in the first match against Macquarie Shores in March.

The club Championship  for the Triples is currently underway, the Pairs have been drawn and are on the noticeboard and the Singles will be made in June.

Since Daylight saving finished, the Tuesday and Thursday bowls will begin at 9am and the Friday Twilight Bowls will be 3pm start followed by drinks and barbecue at 4:30pm. There’s no need to put your name down for Friday, just turn  up ready to play and don't forget the bbq.

The reciprocal arrangement is already in full swing with Macquarie Shores where we visit them one month and host them the next, held on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

The Village Challenge is under way at the Munmorah United Bowlo where we have been represented by 5 or 6 teams each month (Triples). These days are on the 2nd Monday of each month and the team sheet is on the noticeboard a couple of weeks prior to the day.

Presently, the club is planning a midyear function for the members  at the Wyong races on Tuesday July 25.

Good Bowling,

Rob Gregory

Secretary

NOTE:

Due to illness the Social Club committee has dwindled to a very dedicated few.  Without helpers we may not be able to continue our Social Club Activities.

Please help us by putting your name on the list of committee members to avoid losing this great asset to LLV..

REMEMBER:  Many hands make light work...

 Thanks

Your current Social Club Committee
