President's Note

TACL had a packed spring with Taiwanese American Heritage Week, the 25th year of the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival in San Francisco, and a week-long adventure in Taiwan. Find out more below, but to give you a sneak peek: we met the Vice President of Taiwan!

Spring was fun-filled, but I’m looking forward to an even more dynamic summer. Summer means youth camps, more outdoor gatherings, and new leaders stepping up to serve our local communities. As we enter the second half of 2017, TACL is continuing to inspire the next generation of leaders, build sustainable foundations for our communities, and build greater voice for Taiwanese Americans.

If you have any comments, suggestions or shoutouts, feel free to email us at tacl@tacl.org and remember to “Like” us on Facebook.

Best,

Pamela Hung
TACL National President

Taiwanese American Heritage Week Campaign

There is an increasing public recognition that the month of May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, but did you know that Taiwanese American Heritage Week is also celebrated in May? To celebrate Taiwanese American Heritage Week 2017 (May 15th to 21st), TACL spearheaded a campaign to bring greater awareness about this week and the community itself. Learn more about TA Heritage Week and TACL's Campaign here.

TAP-SF's Taiwanese American Cultural Festival 2017

Every year, TAP-SF holds the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival in San Francisco’s famous Union Square. This year’s festival was extra special, as it has been 25 years since the festival started in 1992. The festival was on May 13th and the city of San Francisco proclaimed it as Taiwanese American Day! Over 10,000 people came out to experience “Taiwan Soul.” Check out our event recap here.
My TA Story

TAF Launches "Our Taiwanese American Story"

Stories from Taiwanese families have been passed down through oral tradition for centuries.  Now, we have something better to help us curate stories: the Internet.

In May, Taiwanese American Foundation (TAF) launched "Our Taiwanese American Story," which collects and archives stories of Taiwanese Americans to preserve a collective history and to foster intergenerational and intercultural communication.  Check out some stories and submit your own here.
