Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting is the annual meeting of the IFMSA Asia-Pacific region and it provides a space for IFMSA members in the region to exchange knowledge and experience, tackle shared regional and IFMSA-related issues and get the feel of an IFMSA General Assembly.

The theme for APRM2017 Japan is “Healthcare in conflicts and emergencies: medical workers towards building peace”. Conflicts and other emergency situations such as violence, natural disasters, and mass migrations are when healthcare is needed the most in order to save lives and rebuild livelihoods of the affected people.

What is the role of medical workers in building peace? What are our responsibilities? These are some of the questions that we want to explore as a region during the APRM.

WHEN:

Pre-APRM: 14th – 17th September

APRM: 17th – 21st September

Post-APRM: 21st – 23rd September

More info is available on the APRM2017 website, and their Facebook page

GHG Spotlight

Global Health Awareness at Western Sydney (GHAWS)
Every year GHAWS holds their esteemed GHAWS Auction Night Event which sole purpose is to raise money for our annual purchase of birthing kits through Birthing Kits Foundation Australia (BKFA).

The entire medschool is involved, such that both faculty members and students alike, volunteer ‘items’ to be auctioned off, which can then be bought to raise birthing kit money.

The items that are bid on are diverse and are quite creative. This year we auctioned items such as consultants cooking home cooked meals, or a ‘date-night’ with a student. Item’s also included, baking lessons, singing/songwriting sessions, anatomy mentoring, henna, photoshoots and the popular ‘choc fest’ whereby a staff member kindly donates hundreds of dollars’ worth of chocolate (see below).

Auction Night generally brings about a massive turnout, and results in a bonding experience between all years 1st to 5th- which, let’s be honest, is a rarity. This year we raised just over $5000 which GHAWS is extremely proud of. We hope that the tradition of GHAWS Auction Night is carried through for many years to come!
