First Term Ministry Trips
Every year at UBI, the second year students have the privilege of going on ministry trips to various locations around South Africa and internationally. Here is a brief report of the first term trips.
Dr. Richard Murray with his team of six students visited Pastor Mathe in Pretoria and Pastor Mashinini in Duduza. They ministered in churches, in four schools including a school for disabled children, and in Nigel Prison. In addition to house visits in Pretoria and Duduza, the team set up and led a tent crusade and joined the Foxfires from AE for open air meetings. The students shared that they were blessed to see lives changed, to learn important leadership lessons, and by the power of prayer.
The Cape Town trip, led by Mrs. Bongi Dumisa and Mr. Keegan Noble, comprised eight students who collaborated with Pastor Puthukezi of Pentecostal Holiness Church. During their time, the team did door to door evangelism in the neighbourhoods surrounding the church, organized and led revival services in the evening and children’s meetings during the day, and participated in open air ministry near the hostels. Younger members of the church joined the team in house to house visits and they are continuing to have an impact in the community now.
The Mozambique trip, led by Eric and Susan Binion and alumnus Dominic Dass, consisted of nine students representing six languages - a real "rainbow nation" team. They visited Pastor Ntuli at in Manguzi, assisted Alumnus Pastor Ernest Phoseka in Zitundo and Momoli, and Pastor Vilanculos in Maputo. The team ministered through home visits, Sunday services, three True Love Waits programmes with youth in churches, three open air meetings, and a Sunday school teacher training workshop. The students were impacted by the challenges of cross-cultural ministry, leadership lessons learned, the love and generosity of the people they met, the joys and challenges of working on a team, and left with a desire to return and continue to support these pastors in their ministries.
