Getting You Moving Is What Keeps Us Going

It’s Time to Get Moving

We are driven to get you where you want to be, spending time doing the things that fuel your lives instead of staring at brake lights.

We’re passionate about our mission to bring you innovative transportation solutions. It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning and puts that extra spring in our steps. We burn the midnight oil trying to figure out the best way to move people and products around this region effectively and efficiently. We puzzle about everything big to small – like how best to design and construct environmentally sustainable roads to how tall to make the roadway signs so that you can see them better.

We know your time is important and that you’d rather spend it with family, friends, or on the couch for a Netflix binge. And that’s what we want, too.

We are a small team of dedicated professionals that takes mobility seriously and this edition of Expressway News shines the light on a couple of real infrastructure folks making a difference.

Spotlight on Unsung Heroes

Meet Fabiola Newman, our Traffic and Incident Management Manager. Since 2011, Fabiola has been working for the agency’s Operations Department taking care of the people who drive on our open roads, like 183A Toll and the new, open segment of the MoPac Express Lane. “We understand how important it is to keep people moving,” she says.

Fabiola works out of our Traffic Management Center, coordinating traffic management, incident management, maintenance concerns, and other means to make mobility smoother for our customers. As she works closely with police and emergency services, Fabiola is zealous about finding better ways to clear incidents so traffic flow gets back to normal as soon as possible. It can be a challenge, she says, to coordinate with so many different agencies – police departments, emergency services, city staff, etc. “With all the jurisdictions in play, we must be flexible to meet each of their needs and look for every opportunity to clear incidents faster and more efficiently,” she says.

As a California transplant who has lived in Central Texas since 2007, Fabiola says, “Austin traffic is reminding me a lot of LA traffic. And that’s not a good thing.” She’s proud to work for an agency working to get people moving. “Every day, we are trying to make the commuting life better and finding ways to make things smoother for the public on our roadways,” she says.

When off the clock, her favorite thing to do in Austin is kayaking.

Meet Oscar Solis, Senior Project Manager. A recent addition to the agency’s Engineering Department, Oscar is part of the project development team responsible for all projects before they go into construction. This includes our projects under environmental study (Oak Hill Parkway, 183A Phase III, and MoPac South) and our projects on the verge of construction (290 Toll Phase III and 183 North Mobility Project).

“We’re working towards providing more options for folks to get around Central Texas,” he says. And it’s not an easy task; with the demands of so many projects in the hopper, he and the team must make sure every project runs smoothly and is delivered at the highest quality as swiftly and efficiently as possible.

So, what makes him totally geek out? The 183 North Mobility Project. “I drive the 183 North corridor every day and I’m stuck in it every day,” he says. “It’s great to work on improving mobility where I live and work.”

“Traffic continues to build with the tremendous growth in the area,” he says. “It’s exciting to think that we will provide a reliable route all the way from Liberty Hill into downtown Austin.”

Oscar hails from Mercedes, Texas, and has spent the past 27 years in Austin. His favorite activities are hiking and swimming in the hill country.

A big thanks to Fabiola and Oscar, and all of our staff, for working every day to get people moving.

Someone’s Got to Think About this Stuff

At the Mobility Authority, we build more than just roads; we build mobility solutions that help preserve and protect our quality of life. We are committed to moving you through traffic as safely and efficiently as possible, because we know there are other things you’d prefer to do with your time.

We have transportation options on the ground already with tolled lanes along 183A, US 290, and SH 71, as well as an express lane segment on MoPac North. And yes, we’re working tirelessly all across the city to complete projects that will connect you to everything you love.

And we’re just getting started.
