Welcome to the Summer 2017 FiberCell Systems Expressions Newsletter.

It’s been a rainy and cold spring but the swimming pool opens this weekend, and the kayak is ready for more aquatic adventures. We have been busy this Spring and just want to provide you with some updates.
 

FiberCell Systems is Awarded Patent!

A few weeks ago we were finally awarded our patent for alternating flow of gas and liquid media through the interior of hollow fibers for bioreactor applications. This patent is central to the development of our production scale hollow fiber bioreactor. It’s development will bring all the advantages of hollow fiber cell culture to a manufacturing scale platform. Patent # 9,683,207, titled “Method for growing cells in hollow fibers.” Stay tuned for more updates about this.
 

Exosomes Poster at the ISEV, May 2017

FiberCell Systems presented a poster at the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) meeting in Toronto. New data shows the capacity of the hollow fiber bioreactor to produce large quantities of exosomes from human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells, equal to 7,000 T225 flasks! Exosomes are produced under more physiologic condition at high concentrations with less contamination from host cell proteins, DNA and membrane fragments. Wound healing activity was also demonstrated.

Book Chapter:  Three-dimensional cell-based assays in hollow fibre bioreactors

After a bit of a wait our book chapter “Three-dimensional cell-based assays in hollow fibre bioreactors” was published by Wiley in a book put together by Dr. Stephen Pszyborski. “Technology Platforms for 3D Cell Culture"

FiberCell Laboratories

FiberCell Laboratories, our contract production lab continues to expand. We can bring the power of hollow fiber cell culture to you and your lab. We are collaborating with NCI to produce a cytokine for large animal testing, a therapeutic protein from the University of Maryland that can be directly injected into mice without purification from CDM-HD and producing an antibody standard for an analytical equipment manufacturer. We look forward to producing exosome standards for the NIH and have developed a fully glycosylated human IL2 expressed in mammalian cells using our CDM-HD chemically defined serum replacement and will be introducing it as a purified product soon.
