Zach's Bikes - Sponsor Profile
Zach and Lillian Gilmour are well known in our community. They are both strong supporters of cycling, especially mountain biking. Many of us have known Zach from his days as manager of Hutch’s Bicycles.
You no doubt know that Zach's Bikes is a new bicycle shop (located in space occupied by a former bakery near Main & Ninth) that opened its doors in October 2016. Founded by Zach Gilmour and his wife, Lillian Schiavo-Gilmour, they set out to create a bike shop that felt truly local. “Lilly and I pride ourselves in being closely connected to all things going on in the community.”
Zach came to Klamath Falls in 2004 to finish up his bachelors degree at Oregon Institute of Technology. He immediately fell in love with the area, which reminded him of growing up in Bend. Klamath Falls had immediate access to beautiful and remote cycling opportunities. An experienced cyclist, he quickly seized these opportunities and now is proud to call this place home.
In 2008, Lillian and Zach, tired of having to travel to attend bike races, started the KFCX Moore Cowbell bike race, a cyclocross race taking place in early fall, now in its 10th year. All proceeds from this event have gone to benefit the Friends of Moore Park with an earmark for trail and bicycle access improvement.
Zach tells us, “in 2014, I learned that a long-time successful bicycle event, The Crater Lake Century, was in peril of being abandoned as the principle organizer was moving away.” Along with a friend, Adam Burwell, he formed The Lost Cascades Bicycle Club to inherit and continue the event. Zach comments, “we are proud to contribute most of our profit to three local non-profits.” Lost Cascades has continued to not only carry on this event, but to act as a key organizer and enabler of all things cycling-related, by helping these events: the Northwest Tandem Rally, the Velo Cascadia Cycling Series, The Kingsley Duathlon and more.
Banking on the reputation earned with those organizations as well as heavy involvement with the Klamath Trails Alliance, Zach and Lilly decided it was time to go out on their own and open a bike shop. With a penchant for local cycling knowledge and ten years of experience as the store manager at the Klamath Falls location of Hutch's, he had a very good idea of what direction to go with his new bike shop. KTA is proud to have Zach’s Bike’s as a sponsor.
