Over the past week several students have come to O'Brien Guitars to participate in my annual steel string guitar voicing, classical guitar voicing and French polish classes. Each class is a two day class. In the voicing classes students arrive with a few soundboards that they have joined and thicknessed to approx. 3.5 millimeters. After learning how I evaluate and select my soundboard material,  they then choose one of theirs to work with in the class. The soundboards are then thicknessed, braced and voiced and the students leave with an example to use to make other soundboards in their shops or use on future guitars that they make. Next year's classes are schedule for June 1 and 2 (steel string) and June 3 and 4. (classical)
In the French polish class students learn my modern approach to French polishing a guitar. This method will allow you to French polish a guitar in as little as a day. Students also learn antiquing and sizing techniques using hide glue, egg whites and different colored shellac.  Next year's class is scheduled for June 5 and 6.
These classes are only offered once a year and fill quickly. They are also scheduled for the same week so students can take one or all of the classes while in Colorado. If interested in participating in next year's classes please contact me.
