Social health protection in Kenya: Stakeholder workshop held


Within the Social Health Protection for Inclusive Growth (SHPIG) project a stakeholder workshop was held on 26 May 2017 in Nairobi, to present first findings for Kenya of the two-year research project funded by Wotro. The Politics of Slums in the Global South: Book resulting from research programme Chance2sustain

Seeing urban politics from the perspective of those who reside in slums offers an important dimension to the study of urbanism in the global South. Many people living in sub-standard conditions do not have their rights as urban citizens recognised and realise that they cannot rely on formal democratic channels or governance structures. Through in-depth case studies and comparative research, The Politics of Slums in the Global South: Urban Informality in Brazil, India, South Africa and Peru integrates conceptual discussions on urban political dynamics with empirical material from research undertaken in Rio de Janeiro, Delhi, Chennai, Cape Town, Durban and Lima. More

Department of Development Studies, Faculty of Sciences, Palacky University offers International Development Studies and the programme is one of the first of its kind in the Czech Republic and in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. With more than one decade of experience in the field of development studies, the Department offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in International Development Studies taught in Czech. The department also offers a master programme in International Development Studies taught in English and bachelor programme in Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development taught in Czech.

Project Integration: Helping refugees find IT jobs
In Switzerland, only 2.7% of asylum seekers that can legally work, do so - due to language barriers, but also to a lack of adequate skills. With Switzerland facing a deficit of IT workers, Graduate Institute student Vincent Baumgartner (Master in Development Studies) co-founded Project Integration in October 2016 to train refugees and asylum seekers with IT skills, allowing them to access jobs in the Swiss IT sector.
