Hello Summer 2017

The latest on our first 2 storey building, #volunteerweek, group opportunities for September and much more…

New residential centre is flying along!

This is our first ever 2 storey building and we are very pleased with the progress!

With summer upon us we’re glad we planned to fully wrap the construction site to keep our lovely groups dry!  As ever, this entire building is being built by the people who will use it (vulnerable and ‘hard to reach’ young people) using only welsh timber and natural insulation.

We’ve even made our own I-Beams using welsh larch.

You’ll see from these photos that excellent progress is being made and the groups are doing amazingly well.

It’s #volunteerweek – so a big shout out to our volunteers!

Ever since Down to Earth was founded in 2005, volunteers have been a key part of how we positively impact communities and transform spaces.  As it’s Volunteer Week, it feels right to make a special mention of everyone who volunteers and contributes to make Down to Earth what it is today.

From weekly mentors to board members – everyone freely gives up their time to support our vision to create a better world... thank you!

You can find some fantastic case studies from some of our volunteers here:

Free group programmes coming up in September

Thanks to our lovely funders we have amazing free, accredited programmes available in September, 1 day a week for 8 weeks.

Want to build a residential centre?  Do you work with 16 to 24 year olds from ‘hard to reach’ or vulnerable backgrounds?  “Building Sustainable Communities” is our flagship young person project putting young people at the heart of creating their own buildings and offering life-changing experiences.

Email sam@downtoearthproject.org.uk to find out more.

If you work with groups 25 years old and upwards we have 2 programme opportunities:

Therapeutic Woodland programmes – help manage the Gower Ash Woods while improving well-being at the same time.

Therapeutic Sustainable Construction – working together to create stunning buildings and to improve mental well-being.

These programmes are clinically proven to help people with mental health problems.

Email Jon@downtoearthproject.org.uk to find out more.

We’re in the UNESCO UK Good Practice Guide for Education for Sustainable Development

It’s quite a thing to be one of 8 case studies representing the UK in raising awareness, understanding and skills in sustainability – particularly as we specialise in working with so-called ‘hard to reach’ groups.  You can find out more and read the other case studies here:
