One Step Closer to Our Dream!

We finally raised enough money for the first payment on the property in Congo - 2.5 acres of arable, buildable land with producing mango and palm trees. Picture below shows cassava already grown on the land with palm and mango trees in the back. The other picture shows, David, the orphanage Director closing the purchase with Mr. Karangwa, the seller of the land.

Long term vision for the Property

We were able to make the first payment of $36,000 to secure the land, and still have two payments of $20,000 and $13,000 in 12 and 24 months (or sooner). The plan is to construct a main building with kitchen/dining room and six to eight small houses (600 sq.ft. in size). Each small house will be home to 8 to 10 children and host parents. The compound will have a vegetable garden, chicken coops and pig pens to produce food for the orphanage, as well as sufficient production to sell and help support living expenses. Read more...
An architect rendering of the anticipated compound that will include stand-alone houses, each one housing 8 children and house parents, a main building, and farming area.
Immediate Plans for the Land
Farming for Food and Additional Income.
Vegetable growing can now be expanded and Hosea's (orphanage manager) pig farming project (currently 8 sows and 28 piglets) will be moved onto the land.
Security First
Building a fence around the property is key to ensure a safe living environment for the children and the farming operations. Please help us by donating towards the fence, so that we can start food production soon!
