Spotlight Corridor: 6th Avenue
6th Avenue is one of the most unique of all the city's avenues. Deemed Avenue of the Americas in 1945 by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, locals lovingly and defiantly continued to call it 6th Avenue long before the Department of Transportation gave the street its green and white "6 AVE" signs in the 1980s. The Avenue formerly hosted an elevated subway line, whose construction made it by far the southernmost avenue in Manhattan. Once the line was removed, the thoroughfare's interesting downward path allowed for small, vibrant plazas and gardens like Ruth Wittenberg Triangle and Golden Swan Garden to effortlessly line the street. Our bustling stretch of 6th Avenue acts as the perfect nexus between SoHo and Chelsea, with a small-town feel combined with the grit and passion of Washington Square Park. It's no wonder that famous figures like E.E. Cummings and Eleanor Roosevelt made their homes right around the corner. Today stunning architecture can be found in all directions, between Jefferson Market Library, St. Joseph's Church, and of course gorgeous views of the One World Trade Center further downtown. A fantastic mix of flavors and aromas radiate from 6th Avenue's diverse restaurants, with retailers like C.O. Bigelow keeping the street's simultaneously cool and classic feel.
With retail rental rates hovering around $165 Sq Ft, 6th Avenue features reasonable rents combined with a central location and stellar transportation including subway stations at West 4th Street and 14th Street. Please see our available properties for a list of sites available on this amazing avenue.

E.A.K. Ramen Soups Up the District
The first east coast outpost of this popular Japanese chain, E.A.K. Ramen serves deliciously unique ramen that will fill your stomach and satisfy your taste buds. The foodie community has been going crazy with this latest addition to the New York ramen scene. The style of ramen is called ié-kei ramen, and it combines Fukuoka-style tonkotsu broth with Tokyo-style soy sauce broth. When you toss together the creamy broth with the thick straight noodles, spinach, egg, seaweed and pork, everyone will leave this restaurant satisfied. The Village Alliance is excited to have E.A.K. Ramen as part of our district. E.A.K. Ramen is located at 469 Sixth Avenue between West 11th and 12th Streets (646-863-2027; eakramen.com)
