Ward 1 meeting
Special topic: Residents’ complaint statistics, parking issues and Union Area Transportation Study 
Ramey Johnson and Charley Able, City Council members for Ward 1, will meet with residents from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling St. The meeting will cover residents’ complaint statistics, parking issues in the Lakewood High School neighborhood, and the Union Area Transportation Study.

Shakti Ward 3 meeting
Special topic: Save the 'Zone
Shakti, City Council member for Ward 3, will meet with residents from 8 to 9 a.m. on Monday, June 5 at the Sunrise Sunset Restaurant, 1424 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Information will be provided on Save the ’Zone, the City’s initiative with Bicycle Colorado to educate and encourage residents and employees to help improve Lakewood’s air quality by reducing trips involving only one person in a car.

Pete Roybal and Shakti, City Council members for Ward 3, will meet with residents from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24 at Phillips United Methodist Church, 1450 S. Pierce St.

Special topics: Cycling Without Age program and activities for all ages
Karen Harrison and Dana Gutwein, City Council members for Ward 5, will meet with residents at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 at Bear Valley Church, 10001 W. Jewell Ave. Gary Harty from the Lakewood Bicycle Advisory Team will provide information on the Cycling Without Age program, and Lakewood Recreation Manager Peggy Brocard will talk about activities for all ages.

Mayor joins climate statement
Mayor Adam Paul and more than 150 other mayors representing millions of Americans across the country committed themselves to meeting climate goals in their cities that align with the Paris Agreement on climate change. “We will continue to lead,” the statement said, which is available at http://bit.ly/2qG3yxG.

Art in the park
Join Mayor Adam Paul to create a temporary art installation at Aviation Park as part of the 40 West ARTline free community event in conjunction with INSPIRE Arts Week. Enjoy free refreshments and learn about the art planned for the four-mile walking and bicycling ARTline route from 10 a.m. to noon on June 3 at 1900 Teller St. Details at Lakewood.org/40WestArtline.

The spot for dog shots
Dogs and their owners won't want to miss the Shot Spot event, with low-cost vaccinations, pet-friendly vendors, pet goodies, demonstrations and more. It’s 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at O’Kane Park, 7101 W. First Ave. Details at Lakewood.org.

Arts, parks and recreation open house
Share your ideas and discuss your priorities for the future of Lakewood's arts, parks and recreation programs and facilities at an Imagine Lakewood! open house. The first one is 2-4 p.m. on June 6 at Clements Center, 1580 Yarrow St. Details at Lakewood.org/Imagine.

(Free!) Rockin' Block Party
Join us at Lakewood Heritage Center on June 10 for the FREE Rockin' Block Party. This is an event for the whole family, featuring games, food trucks, live music and the movie “Labyrinth” on the big screen. This is part of Lakewood’s annual INSPIRE Arts Week of free and discounted arts and cultural events. Details at Lakewood.org/RockinBlock.

Get a look at new organ on ‘City Scene’
Listen to the great new addition to the Lakewood Cultural Center as “City Scene” introduces you to a spectacular organ. Watch it at Lakewood.org/CityScene.

Homework club provides more than school help
Thanks to a successful community collaboration, Emory Elementary School has been providing students with an After-School Homework Club with the help of the Lakewood Faith Coalition and interested residents serving as volunteer tutors. This is the latest on What’s Good in the ’Wood, Lakewood’s good news blog. Also, read about the duckling rescue at Lakewood.org/GoodStories.

Park opening delayed
Because of the recent rainy weather, the new Carmody Park development will not open June 9 as scheduled. We will open the park as soon as we can so that families can enjoy the new spectacular playground and fitness equipment. The rain has prevented work from being completed to open the new improvements. Volunteer for National Trails Day 
National Trails Day is the country's largest celebration of trails. Volunteer at Lakewood’s event, 8 a.m.-noon on June 10 at William Frederick Hayden Park at Green Mountain. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Register at Lakewood.org/BCLPevents.

Subdivision application
The City has received a minor final plat application to subdivide properties at 5665, 5601, 5565 and 5555 W. 10th Ave. from four lots into 136 townhome and duplex lots and eight tracts. For more information, contact Stephen Wilson, project planner, at 303-987-7527 or stewil@lakewood.org.

Subdivision approved
The planning director has approved a minor subdivision application for property at 1150 Oak St. The purpose of the plat is to create 81 townhome lots and two tracts. For more information, contact Stephen Wilson, project planner, at 303-987-7527 or stewil@lakewood.org.

Nighttime construction
The City will allow nighttime construction to occur for a project by East Lakewood Sanitation District installing a new sewer line at Sheridan Boulevard and West Eighth Avenue. The work will occur June 5-9 and require lane closures. 

 

In the Community


Alameda meeting
The Alameda Gateway Community meeting this month will be 7:30-9 a.m. on June 7 at the Village at Belmar, 7825 W. Alameda Ave. Learn about what’s happening in the Alameda corridor. Please bring food or school supplies for the Action Center.

Firehouse in-formal
Come have fun at an event for the Firehouse Project, which is working to build a firehouse at the Lakewood Heritage Center that would resemble one from 1946. The event is 6-10 p.m. on June 9 at the center, 801 S. Yarrow St. The firehouse would display an original 1939 fire engine and other equipment. Taste of the West
Taste of the West is the premier culinary event in Jefferson County, offering tasty food samples, an assortment of beer from local breweries and wine and culinary exhibitors. Tickets for the June 8 evening event are available at WestChamber.org/events/taste-west.

Jefferson County Service Saturday
Join A Little Help to serve seniors during its Service Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon on June 10 with volunteers meeting at 9077 W. Alameda Ave. Volunteers (children and groups welcome) will spend the morning helping with home and yard tasks like weeding, raking, window washing and high dusting.
