COR Update March 13-19
Pastor's Message
Three Ways to Find God in Summertime. Our priorities shift a little in the summertime. Certainly in Wisconsin, any sunny day is a perfect excuse to be outside — in parks, on the lake, out for lunch on a workday, at home in our own green spaces, or in the church’s community garden. The Church calls this long season after Pentecost and Trinity Sunday “ordinary season.” We put up green hangings and pastors wear green stoles to reflect all the green beauty of the world outdoors. One way to find God in summertime is to pause and consider His role in creating and sustaining our beautiful world. You might go for a hike or long walk and notice the great variety of plants and animals.

A second way to connect with God in summertime works in every season. It’s all too easy for us to focus on what is left to do, or what needs repairing or improving. But practicing gratitude turns our attention away from what is broken or unfinished to instead focus on what is delightful. Adults and children alike can pause before a meal and list aloud those things we are grateful for. Teens may or may not want to participate, but you know they are watching the adults they love giving thanks to God for each blessing.

Whether or not it’s summer, some of us still have to work. A third way to intentionally connect with God is to practice Sabbath. Sabbath is that ancient practice of setting aside Sunday as a day for worship and rest. No chores! No accomplishments. (No e-mail.) Just songs and prayers and activities that restore your body, mind and spirit. Because actually, God is always with us — we don’t have to “find” God. But we sometimes forget to pay attention.

Garden Plots - 3 Plots Available

Three Community Garden plots are available and ready for spring planting! Plots are approximately 10x10. You many request more than 1 plot. If one is too big, share a plot with someone or request 1/2 plot.

The garden is open to people in the church and to members of the community at large. This is ideal for apartment dwellers or anyone who does not have a sunny space at home for a garden. The produce is for your own family's enjoyment. If we are blessed with an abundance of produce, the Food Pantry always appreciates fresh vegetables.

Timeline

The timeline is here! There are large sheets of white paper signifying all the years of our church hanging around the sanctuary. We invite you to post pictures (or just write a few words) on the timeline commemorating some of your family's milestones with our church: baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals, or other important moments in your families’ lives. This will give us an opportunity to see just how much Church of the Resurrection has meant to us.

Congregational questions
Although the Cottage Sessions helped us understand our congregation more, we want to cast a wider net to be sure we have a very clear idea of who we are. On June 18 and 25, we will be distributing these questions to the congregation during worship services:
  • What do you like about our congregation?
  • What’s one thing you want to see improved about our congregation?
  • How do you feel about worship (any praise or suggestions)?
  • As a community, how are we doing with sharing the good news of Jesus with neighbors and those in need? Any suggestions?

If you would like to answer those questions by e-mail rather than in writing, please send your answers to office@sharefollowserve.com.
