Greetings Spinners,

OK...we already reported on last Tuesday's ride so let's look ahead to the 3rd Annual Solstice Ride with the Janesville Velo Club.

First of all, for those who committed to next Tuesday's ride, please show up even if the weather is bad because we have committed to the Bass Creek Coffee Shop for your reservation for the pulled pork dinner. Right now the forecast is a bit "iffy" for next Tuesday.

Here are the particulars on the upcoming Tuesday Ride...

We will meet at the Bass Creek Coffee Shop in beautiful Downtown Afton.and will leave for our ride @ 6:15pm. There is a grass parking on an access Rd. just to the south of the Coffee Shop. We will eat after the ride and the cost of the pulled pork meal including cole slaw, baked beans, chips, soft drink or water & a "cookie" is $8.

Everyone is responsible for bringing their own "adult beverage" but there will be soda and water included in the meal.

Remember there is a "Traveling Trophy" (designed & built by our own John P.) for the group that has the "MOST" bicyclists that show up. The Spinners won the 1st year and last year it was the JVL Velo Club so let's hope for a good turnout from both groups--this is a great opportunity for some good camaraderie and exchange bike riding trips/upcoming group rides/good places to eat in the area.

FYI, there will be Porta Potties available for everyone compliments of the JVL Velo Club so no one should get arrested in Afton for peeing in the bushes.

Here is a report from Craig on this past Saturday's Pie Ride:

"What appeared as a questionable day for biking, with the potential of storms, turned out to be a cyclist delight.  The Spinners had 10 cyclist in attendance.  One group of 6 left promptly at 6:30 the others all left by 7:30 with one leaving the start before the official start time.  Most met together after the ride to discuss the days ride and upcoming events."

On Wed June 21st there will be the 1st of several "night rides" led by Jeff & Sue Johnson. Here is a recent e-mail from Jeff:

The first 2017 Night Ride will be Wednesday, June 21  Once again we will don our reflective biking clothes and see who has the brightest bike lights and blinkies. Ride will commence from Beloit Bicycle Company parking lot at 8 PM.  Since it is the first day of summer the sun will not set until 8:37.  Remember, these are slow rides - 22 miles in the city, and take approximately two hours.  Join us!  Mark your calendars for the other rides this summer, July 26th and August 23rd.

Here is another neat ride on Sat June 24th for a good cause that was passed along by Jon Nelson one of our Spinners:    https://www.steepleride.com/

P.S. It is no longer a rumor that John P rode 225 miles (in one day) up in Door County last week...here are the particulars from John himself:

"Yeah, I did spend some time riding with Jeff and Dan, was a good day, although I was, uh, happy a rather intense thunderstorm at 8pm became a mostly plausible excuse for ending.  My legs were still good after 13 hours of actual ride time but the overall fatigue was starting to be an issue-my big head is too damn heavy.  Am pleased though that I was a notch faster than last year’s double as averaged 17.3 this go around (and around)."
