 Quinnipiac Guest Coach - Cancelled

Meghan Turner, a 2016 graduate of Quinnipiac, had to return to her home town for a family emergency and won’t be able to meet with players this summer.

However, she hopes to help with the All Hockey teams going to Beantown in Massachusetts in July.

WWFHA sends their positive thoughts to Meg and her family.

WWFHA Alumna Accepted to Harvard Medical

Congratulations to WWFHA Alumna Bailey Ingalls who will attend Harvard Medical School in the fall. Bailey played for the Washington Wild 19U AA team and went to the 2013 USA Hockey National Championship Tournament with her teammates (class of 2013).

Bailey received the 21st Century Leaders award from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary standards of achievement, initiative and social awareness.

Congratulations, Bailey, and best of luck to you on your next adventure!

The Benefits of Talking to Yourself

The NY Times article from June 8, 2017 covers research on the benefits of Self Talk, especially in sports.

Two types of Self Talk are:
1. Instructional
2. Motivational

One study "found that players passed and shot the basketball more accurately when they instructed themselves through the task out loud, suggesting that talking to yourself about what you’re doing can keep you focused. The study concluded that motivational self-talk worked best on tasks based on speed, strength and power, while instructional self-talk worked best with tasks that involved focus, strategy and technique."

ASK WWFHA

Q: Who decides what rules to change, and when and how?

A: Every four years, USA Hockey's rules for the sport of ice hockey are reviewed and are able to be changed, modified or restructured. The process starts the summer before with rule change proposals submitted to USA Hockey. Following review by several groups including the Playing Rules Committee and the Board of Directors, the rules are voted on at USA Hockey's Annual Congress in June. The rules are then valid for the following four seasons. Watch this video to learn more about the process, hear about who makes up the Playing Rules Committee and how the officials make sure they are up to date on the rules.
