I opened the door and dropped the bag of ice cream onto the seat.  As I was retracting the key from the door lock I suddenly felt a hand around my mouth and my feet quickly came off the ground. In a matter of seconds everything went dark as something was tied around my eyes.

We are continuing our work with the Georgia Justice Project and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta and other agencies as part of a special  Employment Working Group. The goal is to define strategies  “Beyond Ban the Box” hiring.

Our partnership with the  Southern Center for Human Rights and the Criminal Justice Reform Workgroup was formed to focus on state and local policy priorities and identify  key stakeholders that will continue the efforts of the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform and Governor Deal. On May  25^th NIA Leadership joined Senator Brandon Beach’s “Heroin Task Force”  in Alpharetta.  This task force has taken on the challenge of strategically addressing the growth and deaths associated with addiction throughout Fulton County. Watch for updates from the NIA on this critical work.

Later that same day we were engaged with the next level of planning  of the Fulton County Ad Hoc Task Force on expungement and record restriction.

On June 8^th we connected NIA issues with the Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority regarding the “Red Alert” Summit this October. NIA is on the institution's committee.
