NEWS

The Passing of Kosie Marais
Kosie Marais, the owner of Breeland Cellar, where the Slanghoek Triathlon and other great sporting events are hosted, sadly passed away in a car accident on the evening of 26 May.  Kosie’s hospitality in the Slanghoek valley was legendary and we fully enjoyed this at one of the Western Cape’s greatest Triathlon events every year.  Participants who have stayed on the farm, during the race, or at other times can attest to this:  “Kosie was altyd byderhand om vir die stadsjapies die ligte te laat brand, of om die kraanwater aan die loop te kry.  Rus in Vrede Kosie.”
Our sincerest condolences to the Marais family.   Kosie will be sorely missed by the Slanghoek Valley and the greater Western Cape Triathlon community.

Southern Cape Fires
What happened in the Southern and Eastern Cape with the devastating fires ravaging through the area and towns is beyond belief.  Described by most as something we would only expect to see in a movie.

Whilst the effects of this on the Best 10 Days of Our Winter obviously pales into insignificance compared to what the people of Knysna are dealing with, we are happy to report that the Knysna Oyster Festival and most of the sporting events will go ahead as planned.  We urge members not to make rash decisions about entries and accommodation already booked for this area.  Knysna and surrounds will need the economic injection that the festival brings now more than ever, as they rebuild the town.

Iron Cowboy
The iron cowboy is the story of James Lawrence, who completed 50 Ironmans, in 50 Days, in 50 US States.  His idea was scoffed by many who told him that it was not possible to achieve.  His doctors, friends and sponsors advised him against it.  His journey will make you laugh, cry and possibly squirm in your seats in disbelief. Lawrence shares with you the ups, the downs and the life lessons learned along the way. Experience first-hand the remarkable journey of James Lawrence and his family.
You can come and listen to his story on Thursday the 29th of June, at 19:00, at the Century City Conference Centre.  Click here to Book Tickets.

LOGO COMPETITION

Western Cape Triathlon, Cape Unicity Triathlon and, on behalf of the other future Districts would like to invite all members or interested parties to come forward with some suggestions for the new Associations’ Logos.  If you design is selected you will win free Triathlon Club and TSA Membership for next season and some other cool prizes too.

As you know the former Western Province Triathlon (current logo in the header of this email) will now become the Western Cape Triathlon Association with a District Association for each of the following Districts / Municipalities:
Western Cape Districts
City of Cape Town Metropolitan (Cape Unicity)
Cape Winelands District
Central Karoo District
Eden District
Overberg District
West Coast District

All of these Associations will need a logo and we are inviting members to flex their creative muscle.  There are no design rules but the logos should be practical (for branding) and represent the Province and applicable District.  We have included some examples of existing District and sporting body logos below.
Should you have any queries, concerns or require information; please do not hesitate to drop us a line at Admin@WCTriathlon.co.za
