Durban University of Technology’s energyDRIVE project receives the ‘best show award’ for innovation-creativity, concept and design, after competing with more than 300 local and international exhibitors, at the Africa Utility week in Cape Town recently.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN ABSTRACT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Local and international researchers gathered at the Durban University of Technology Hotel School (Ritson Campus) for the opening of the Second Durban University of Technology Interdisciplinary Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Conference yesterday.

The conference is an annual event coordinated by the DUT Postgraduate Association intended at bringing researchers and postgraduate students together to exchange ideas on various academic disciplines and also reflect on the nature of academic work and research.

DUT STUDENTS EXCEL AT MANDARIN COMPETITION

The 2017 South African preliminary rounds for the 16th Chinese Bridge Competition for Foreign College Students was successfully held at Wallenberg Research Centre Stellenbosch recently. It was hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters and organised by the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University.

Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award

SIX DUT STUDENT DESIGNERS THROUGH TO YOUNG DESIGNER AWARD

Six of the 10 DUT fashion students, Hlengiwe Mdunge, Nokwe Mazibuko, Samkelisiwe Mbatha, Siphesihle Zikhali, Katekani Moreku and Nasreen Paruk are through to the prestigious Vodacom Durban July Designer Award taking place on race day, 1 July 2017.

With friends and family whooping support, the five judges scrutinised the outfits designed against the race day theme “The Colour Of Magic”, and eventually settled on the top ten to go through to the finals.

Gomolemo Mohapi

DUT COMPUTER GENIUS OFF TO USA

Durban University of Technology’s 2016 Microsoft Student Partner (MSP), Gomolemo Mohapi, will be flying on 14 July 2017 after being selected by the United States embassy to study in the United States of America until May 2018.

Gomolemo became an MSP in March last year during his first year as an Information Technology student. He said he read about the programme on a poster provided by DUT and because of his fascination with computers, he instantly got interested.
