Please join us on Sunday June 25th when we are meeting to discuss the book The Enigma of Reason by Hugo Mercier and Dan Sperber.

Gilbert Harman of Princeton University said: "This is a terrific book. The best thing I have read about human reasoning. It is extremely well written, interesting, and very enjoyable to read." For me that clears one hurdle for my reading published science research. Philip Johnson-Laird also of Princeton describes how the authors argue that reason aids cooperation and communication and that "this theory is presented with brilliant insights, profound scholarship, and entertaining anecdotes." With these accolades, the second hurdle of good scholarship is cleared. I am also interested in learning more especially in the present political environment here in the US where reason is sometimes elusive.

Please note that it is not a strict rule that you have read the book by the time of the club meeting. We find that those who have not read the material before hand can contribute interesting insights to the topic and then are compelled to do further reading. Always a good thing.

RSVP requested via on Facebook or Meetup where we have a list of books we are considering for future book club meetings. At our monthly meetings we then vote on which books from this list are to be read when. And we strongly urge each of you to make suggestions for books that you feel would be appropriate for our book club. To see our book list click here.
