The California Local School Wellness Policy Collaborative brings together state leaders committed to supporting schools in creating and implementing strong wellness policies. Schools Out...Who Ate? Report + Resources              

When school's out and the summer begins, nearly 1.7 million low-income children in California lose access to nutritious meals that support their health and ability to reach their full academic potential. CA Food Policy Advocate’s latest School’s Out...Who Ate? report examines state-wide trends and outlines solutions to keep kids free from hunger during the summer.

Resources to Limit Unhealthy Food Marketing to Students      

Starting next school year, all schools participating in the federal National School Lunch or Breakfast Program must have a local school wellness policy in place that limits unhealthy food and beverage marketing to students. At a minimum, schools must prohibit any on-campus marketing of foods and beverages that fail to meet the USDA Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards.

Does your kid's school district allow junk food marketing in schools? New federal requirements will restrict junk food marketing in schools starting with school year 2017-2018, but the vast majority of school district wellness policies are currently allowing this practice. Breakfast Grants in Time for Fall 

Breakfast helps start the day right and Action For Healthy Kids, with funding from Kellogg Company and the Kellogg Company Fund, is prepared to help your school start the year right. School breakfast grants can be used to pilot or expand alternative breakfast models for the 2017-2018 school year. Learn more and apply today. Deadline is July 31 and schools are awarded by August 14.
