Self-lay news: new look, new updates

Rob Hughes, Self-Lay Programme Manager
Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to my bulletin, which has a new look but the same aim - to keep you up-to-date with the latest self-lay news. The headlines this time: All the best,
Rob Hughes, Self-Lay Programme Manager
Action required: Vesting Certificates and Asset Payments

We've updated our process for issuing vesting certificates to comply with the new Water UK self-lay reporting metrics set out in Figure 8 of the revised Code of Practice. As you'll no doubt know, vesting happens after the gap connection is made between the self-laid main and our network.

There are two things you need to do to ensure you get your vesting certificates.

1. One-off action: Who should we send your vesting certificates to?
Please email me (robert.hughes@thameswater.co.uk) today and specify who your vesting certificates and partial asset payment information should be sent to in future, and their email address.

Nominate your recipient

2. New process: How to request vesting certificates & asset payment info
If you make the gap connection (under the 'routine in-line connection' process set out in Figure 7 of the Code of Practice) we can only issue a vesting certificate and partial asset payment information once you’ve told us in writing that you’ve connected the main. The new process is:

  1. Once you've made the gap connection, please notify us by emailing developer.services@thameswater.co.uk, cc'ing your account coordinator (andrew.bellis@thameswater.co.uk or rafael.arnaiz@thameswater.co.uk).
  2. We’ll send the vesting certificate to the email address you've specified (including the information for the partial asset payment claim, and the ‘as constructed’ drawing you provided for the connection) within the next seven calendar days. If you haven't specified an email address, we’ll ‘reply all’ to everyone you copied in on your incoming email.
  3. The date we send the vesting certificate also triggers the start of the 12-month defect liability period.
If Thames Water make the gap connection, you don't need to go through the notification process. We’ll simply issue the certificate and partial asset payment information to the email address you've specified.

Book your 1:1 now

I'd like to invite you to meet with me individually to discuss what the revised Code of Practice means to your business, and how we can better support you in your plans. If you'd like me to visit you for a 1:1 in the next few months please email me at robert.hughes@thameswater.co.uk.

Updated contact list

We've updated our contact list, which provides direct numbers for key team members.

I'd also like to introduce a new member of the self-lay team, Heide Nenner, who replaces Michael Cornes in supporting our self-lay account coordinators Andy Bellis and Rafael Arnaiz.

Have your say on charges

Ofwat are consulting on proposed changes to new connection charges that will take effect from 1 April 2018 and beyond. You have until 4 August to give Ofwat your feedback. Find out more and share your views here.

Helping us improve

It was fantastic to meet many of you late last month at our self-lay forum. We'll use the input from the day to help us form our new self-lay improvement plan, which we'll publish in late July.

What do you think?
How would you rate this newletter? I'd really appreciate your feedback.
