Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

This phone can be used mornings as well as afternoons.

Please remember that Friday is a Public holiday so there will be no school. (Youth Day)

Also Dad’s Day on the last day of term 2, 30th June 2017.
We invite all our Dads to join us for the morning 8am-12noon.
Come and see what we learn and do all day, be involved in our morning ring with your child and do some art or play in the garden if the weather allows.
Braais will be set up early so that we can braai some sausage for snack time.
There will be a raffle for the dads so bring some money with you!!!!! R5 per chance to win.
(Class Reps will be in touch soon for items to collect for the raffle. If anyone has such items or could donate towards the raffle please chat to your child’s teacher or your class rep. Items such as: biltong, biscuits, deo and men’s toiletries, nuts and dried fruit etc!!!)

ANGELFISH CAKE SALE
Thank you to all those who supported our cakes sale. Some very yummy home-made goodies. The children loved them all. Thanks!!!!

SPEECH THERAPIST
A group of 4th year UCT Speech and Language Pathology students completing their final year Thesis, would like to include Fish Hoek Pre-Primary in their study.
Their research focuses on speech development of four year old bilingual or trilingual children learning English in Cape Town.
If you are happy for your child to participate, consent forms are required. Parents will not be charged for the assessment. Should a speech delay/difficulty be detected, necessary referrals will be made. In addition, feedback will be provided to all parents regardless. Please note that all information obtained will be kept confidential in the report and publication of the research study.
Please let your teacher know if you do not want your child involved in this research study.
Consent forms will be handed out this week!

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
WE HAVE PLENTY OF NEWSPAPER ONLY DRAWING PAPER NEEDED PLEASE! ALSO PLEASE NO MORE EGG BOXES FOR A WHILE WE HAVE PLENTY!

Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

SCHOOL FEES

Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)
Please check your statements and let us know if you have any queries.

SPARE CLOTHES

Please remember to pack in a change of clothing for your children including underwear and socks. The weather is cooling down now and if the children get wet at the water play or in puddles when the rain comes they need to change.

CLASS REPS

Thank you for your support!

GATE SECURITY SYSTEM

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT THINK IT RUDE IF YOU CLOSE THE GATE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND YOU EVEN IF ANOTHER PARENT IS APPROACHING!!!!!!! YOU ARE BEING RESPONSIBLE AND CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN.

SOUP FOR A FRIEND EVERY WEDNESDAY

So wholesome and nutritious!
Some bread with the soup would be wonderful too.
We have a roster on the notice board. Please fill it in on a week that will suit you. We require 4 x 2 litre containers each Wednesday, so two people could provide on one day. If you do not have containers please fetch ours from the office a day or two before.
Vegetable soup is the best option for the children.

Important

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT YOU CLOSE BOTH GATES BEHIND YOU WHEN YOU ENTER AND LEAVE THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. THIS IS FOR THE CHILDREN'S SAFETY!!!!

EQ: Solving Problem together
General: Spiders and Insects
Language: Letter F f frog, flower, father etc
Maths: Direction Left and right
Last week the children enjoyed making rockets and working together to make a space picture. I have pasted photos of their art on Face book but please try and come in and see their beautiful work.  To help the children understand the concept of working together which is linked to our EQ theme we played games in which the children had to work together to solve problems as a group or in partners. This really challenges the children as they need to think of ways to solve the problem and they quickly realise that working alone within the group does not work.
Our new theme is Insects and Spiders. The children will compare and discuss them and we will learn about the life cycles of ants, bees and butterflies. We will link it to maths as insects have 6 legs and spiders have 8. We will play various games adding numbers and comparing more and less. Everything we learn and do I try to link and relate to maths, language and life skills.
Thank you for sending things in for the language table. The children are really enjoying learning the letters through Letterland. They are still struggling with rhyming words. Most children can notice the odd one out eg: pan, fan, big, man but they sometimes struggle to find a word to rhyme with another eg what rhymes with queen? I encourage you to play these games at home.
In maths we will be discussing direction and left and right. Children struggle with this concept. When driving or travelling to school tell them when you are turning left or right. Use words such as crossing over the road, driving up the street etc. I will link it to obstacle courses and also give the children arrows to follow.
The children all seem to have enjoyed the storm and enjoyed sharing their news about what they did and saw with regards to fallen trees and floods. Please remember we are closed this Friday 16 June as it is Youth Day.
 Next Important Date
Fri 30 June Term ends Father's Day Sausage Braai. Dads are invited to spend the morning at school from 8-30 to 11-30. Please try and get some time off work to spend a few hours at school. The children love to have their dads visit. You need to bring boerewors or sausage to braai. Dads braai the sausage and we put it all together and share it. If you are vegan or halaal then your food will be kept to one side.
Have a good week

Theme : Relationships
EQ : I can make up when I have fallen out with a friend
Skill : Fine motor - cutting with a pair of scissors.
Greetings all.
Welcome to the 9th week of the second term. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
This week we are going to learn about relationships and how to make up with a friend.
Our main aim will be to give children an opportunity to solve their problems with friends and know the importance of relationships.
Chat to your child about relationships and give them the chance to solve their own problems and intervene when need be.
We have some photographs of families and relatives already displayed, if you have not brought one in, please bring on Tuesday morning. Books and theme related items are most welcome.
Please remember to pop in an extra pair of socks in your child’s school bag.
Have a blessed week,
Stella and Faith

By making them feel worse.
When children feel better,
They behave better!”
