Welcome to the June edition of the HudRail Newsletter!

This issue is the sixth of the year. All exams and coursework deadlines have now passed, so focus has shifted to building and testing the locomotive as the competition draws ever nearer! We are currently applying the final touches to the locomotive to enhance its operational capabilities and ensure that we have the best possible chance of success down in Stapleford at the end of this month!

Sponsorship

We recently welcomed Advanex (http://advanex.co.uk/) to our HudRail family of sponsors. Advanex is a global corporation specialising in precision engineering solutions. They are responsible for supplying a diverse range of markets, ranging from agriculture and automotive, through to medical and aerospace with metal and plastic components, springs and assemblies.
Advanex Precision Solutions

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Advanex, Wixroyd, RS Components and Dassault Systems for all of their support this year. We hope that our relationship with these great companies can be sustained for the 2017/18 competition season, as we, HudRail, aim to build on advancements and successes achieved this academic year.

We are always keen to explore potential sponsorship avenues and have a range of benefits that can be offered in return for your support. If you or your organisation is interested in sponsoring the HudRail team for the 2017/18 season in any way, please send the team an email, or drop us a message on Facebook or Twitter. Developments

All major work on the locomotive has now been completed, including the implementation of several of our BEng students’ final year project proposals. The pneumatic systems have been redesigned and overhauled in order to better utilise resources, and we have made some improvements to the braking capabilities, as well as to the energy recovery system.

A new control system for the locomotive has been implemented and we are in the process of applying the finishing aesthetic and ergonomic touches to the user interface on the control panel to ensure smooth operation.

In addition to this, Team HudRail's design report and innovation article  has been submitted to the iMechE for review and our business case presentation has been developed which will be subject to adjudication at Stapleford. These three aspects will form part of the Presentation Challenges for the Railway Challenge and we are confident that these aspects, combined with HudRail's locomotive performance in the track based challenges will wow the competition judges and result in a strong finish for the 2016/17 Team .

Our website has been completely overhauled and recently re-launched! Head over to www.hudrail.co.uk to check it out. Please feel free to send us your thoughts and feedback via Facebook or Twitter.

Testing

Testing the locomotive is now the main focus for the team. Testing gives us the opportunity to optimise all aspects of the locomotive as well as identify areas of improvement that can be developed before the competition. This means we will be out on the test track a lot! In addition to this, we will be carrying out plenty of static tests in the lab - including the maintainability challenge, which we have been gradually improving with practice over the last few months!

Competition Weekend

We would like to cordially invite all of our subscribers to the competition weekend to see our locomotive and enjoy the challenges. Pre-registration is required, and can be done via the link below, which also contains information about the event itself:
