Your June update from BRRC!

Father's Day GPS 5K
by: President Peck

Greetings, BRRC!

It is Father’s Day, This Sunday, June 18th!

Father’s Day is a good day for running and relaxing!  As a Father of 2 stellar runners and President of your BRRC, it is appropriate for me to bestow some words of wisdom for runners in this month’s update.

I do not have a better prescription for your training or racing here.  And, no, there will be no answers from a shoe box or the like, either.  Kindly, the advice I offer here, that has worked for me, may not be for everyone.  What I offer is Father’s Day advice from Mack and Shane.

Many of you knew Mack.  What a great dog!  Mack passed away 4 years ago.  Mack was not fast, he was big and not built for running.  But Mack had many, many running friends.  Mack always wanted to go for a run, and I mean always.  Even in his last days, he made the impossible effort to get up and go run.  Just like Cubs fans, it was opening day, all the time for Mack.  And when he ran, he never quit.  He would crumple before stopping.  My Father’s Day advice is to be like Mack.  Never deny a chance to run, always go fetch other runners, and learn the secret that it is easier to keep going than to stop.  Make your own history, and when your days are done, you will be well remembered, like Mack.

Shane has advice, as well.  Shane is one of the Pecks’ current dogs. Shane is a 60 pound, 3 year old, athlete.  Shane never trains, he just runs around like we all did as kids.  Shane keeps it simple. No tapering, no carbo loading, no intervals.  Shane will toe the line with abandon.  He will race or run on demand, any time, any place, and any distance.  Shane races any distance from broad jump to a hundred miles, for real. He is world class, no brag, just fact.  For several years, I have followed the Shane training program.  I too have run thousands of miles at all distances.  I am running well enough, and am enjoying running as much as ever.  I suggest you consider Shane’s advice.

Next Sunday is Father’s Day, and we will have our Father’s Day Race.  Celebrate with Dad, and run like Mack and Shane.

BRRC Club Picnic/Performance Awards

On Sunday, June 25th, at 1PM, we have our annual BRRC picnic and awards presentations. No surprise, it is also a BRRC party. Yes, there will be BRRC sangria!

More importantly, your BRRC has generous $3,000 scholarships that will be awarded to High School student athletes at our event that day. http://www.brrc.com/scholarships

Additionally, we present our annual performance awards at the picnic.

Like running, the picnic is a fun event!  Great food, beverages, awards, camaraderie. Sign up here, it’s free to members and your guests.
