12th Annual Nonprofit Management Conference on May 15th
Two NEW staff members, Danielle & Lolita, attended the 12th Annual Nonprofit Management Conference presented by the Troy Chamber of Commerce, PNC Bank, and Walsh College! They were able to learn share NEW’s mission and services during the exposition, and also attend many informative workshops throughout the day. A big thanks to the organizations that attended and made it happen!

MNA is excited to announce that Early Bird Registration is now available for the Talent Strategy Summit. Hear from keynote speaker Vu Le, Executive Director of Rainier Valley Corps and author of the blog Nonprofit with Balls (now called Nonprofit AF). Known for his irreverent sense of humor and love of unicorns, Vu will discuss nonprofit challenges in recruiting, retaining, and promoting, especially when it comes to people from diverse communities.
Attendees can expect to be a part of high level talent strategy discussions as well as immediate practical leadership development. Whether you’re an experienced nonprofit leader, or an aspiring one, the Talent Strategy Summit will connect you with ideas and people to help strengthen your nonprofit.
If you plan to attend, be sure to keep your eye out for NEW staff, including our COO & VP of Strategy, Yodit Mesfin Johnson, who will be facilitating an afternoon breakout session at 1:45 PM titled Building Diverse Teams for High Performance.

Nonprofit Start Up Series | Fall 2017 | Detroit

Starting a nonprofit organization? Join the NEW team of consultants for the Fall Nonprofit Start Up Series, a four session workshop series that will help you navigate the process of starting a nonprofit organization. You'll learn the basics of starting a nonprofit, how to develop your first board, how to fundraise, and the challenging financial aspects of a new organization. Along with this, this series is an incredible opportunity to meet and engage with other start up individuals!

Though we recommend attending the entire series, each session can also be registered for individually. If you are interested in signing up for all four sessions, register here! If you are interested in single sessions, the registration links are below.

The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance has a New Website! 

On March 17, New partnered with the NLA at Eastern Michigan University to host a conference with the following goals: Prepare DIVERSE nonprofit leaders, Build EQUITABLE strategies to serve the sector, and Foster INCLUSIVE organizations by design. The overall theme was nonprofit board training. Over 70 campus and nonprofit community members attended the conference and participated in sessions such as Nonprofit 101, Duties of the Nonprofit Board Member, Effective Planning, and Legal & Ethical Integrity. 

NLA now has a new website! There, you will find detailed information about our programs, news about our events, and nonprofit career development resources.

Catapult is Accepting Grant Applications!

Will a small grant help your organization creatively solve a problem in the community?  The Catapult grantmaking program supports innovative social enterprise nonprofits who are seeking to launch their civic engagement ideas into action. Catapult is a looking for emerging nonprofit organizations with an impactful ideas achievable with a $7,500 grant. The deadline is June 15

MNA's Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Assessment

Michigan Nonprofit Association is proud to announce the launch of a new diversity, inclusion, and equity assessment. This tool is designed to help nonprofit organizations assess their current status and future progress on the journey to make these values a reality. The assessment will demonstrate your organization’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity, identify a starting point for organizational growth, and create a foundation for open discussion.

Three levels of assessment can examine the perceptions of your organization’s commitment and progress with diversity, inclusion and equity best practices at individual, board and staff levels, and provide insight based on best practices and experience and recommend next steps.
