Luke Buescher Uganda

Dear Friends and Family,
I pray this letter finds you abiding in the love and joy of our Savior.

“to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven”

I think Fall is probably my favorite season. As the warmth and life of summer passes away, Fall brings a short burst of beauty to the otherwise depressing transition. Fall is a season that thrives on change. I find that I too thrive in the short bursts of transition in my life. Many times, change brings renewed perspective, and a fresh sense of my need for wholehearted reliance and hope in the Lord. Change forces us to hold on to the Lord, and teaches us to trust Him more fully. In the midst of change, the immutability of God is emphasized, and we can learn to see the truth of psalm 62,

“In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.”

He alone, is unchanging, and therefore a worthy "rock" and "refuge" for us.

As I have been preparing to leave the U.S. Again, and step into another season of change,  I have a few thoughts that I'll like to share about life's seasons and changes.

Fall is most beautiful after a productive summer, the more the trees flourish and grow in the summer the more beauty comes in the fall. On top of that, old, dead leaves from summer, enrich the ground, and support new growth in the spring. I have found the same to be true in my life. The best seasons of change in my life have come after seasons of faithful investment. The relationships made, and lessons learned through faithfulness become the foundations for new growth in the next season of life. Being someone who thrives on change, it is a constant battle for me to be able to faithfully invest where God has me, and not to always be looking for the next big step of faith. However, I know that the christian life is not so much about the big steps of faith; the big steps of faith are obviously  important, but the christian life is much more about being the person that God has called us to be on a day by day, and moment by moment basis. if we live this way we will, of necessity, be people who fully invest where God has placed us.
"who has despised the day of small things?" Zech 4:10
"His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord." Matt 25:21

I believe God makes Fall to be such a beautiful season because He knows that it is followed by the long winter. it seems to me that change is usually followed by trial; if for no other reason, than that it's hard to adapt to new places and new situations. it used to be that the feeling of longing for home, or friends, or familiarity, would grate against me, and cause me an almost constant feeling of dissatisfaction. However, God has taught me that my home is no longer to be found anywhere else on this earth, we are simply passing through this earth to heaven. That longing for home and family can be, and ought to be, shifted heavenward. I still long for home, only I know my home is the kingdom of heaven. no matter where Following the Lord takes me I'm headed home.
"Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul," 1 peter 2:11

"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4

Well, just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is supporting me, whether in prayer, or finances, or both. I have received enough one-time support to completely pay for the tuition and plane tickets for New Hope Uganda. I am also already up to about 35% of my monthly support!

My last couple weeks in the states were a bit crazy trying to pack, spend time with family and friends, and pull everything else together that I needed before leaving. consequently, if I didn't get a chance to see everyone I apologize. I'll be back in December to raise support, and would love to catch up with anyone I didn't get the chance to see before leaving.

Just to give an update on what the next six months look like, I'll be in the Netherlands from now till June 30th to spend some time with my Uncle Nick, Aunt Lobi, and Cousin Nick. Then, I'll meet My team members, Matt and Noelle Harris, along with their two children, at the airport in Amsterdam to fly to Uganda. I'll be starting the "New Hope Uganda" Missions training program on July 2nd. while taking cultural and Biblical classes, I'll also have the opportunity to be take language lessons for "Acholi", the language spoken in Gulu, and spending some time volunteering at a local pastor's pig and chicken farm in order to gain some insight for helping out at the new BAM (business as a mission) that is planned for "Terebinth Ministries"

The "New Hope" school will finish up the week before Thanksgiving.

The last month of my time will be spent In Gulu with the "Terebinth Ministries" team, getting the lay of the land, and looking for housing and transportation.

Finally, I'll be coming back to the states in December to raise the rest of the support I need, and moving back to Uganda as soon as that is accomplished.

I'll be planning to send a monthly update from here on out. Please keep me in your prayers!
