You've probably been aware of the ongoing military campaign to see Mosul liberated from it's ISIS presence. The city where ISIS rose to power 3 years ago, has once again become the center point for military confrontation and civilian suffering.
Over the last 9 months, the Iraqi army alongside coalition forces have been engaged in urban warfare to see the city cleared of extremists. As most of the city has been cleared, the old city center remains to be liberated. The remaining IS fighters have dug themselves in at the heart of the city. In a last attempt to hinder the liberation and to bring as much destruction as possible, they are holding captive anywhere between 100.000-150.000 civilians, half of whom are expected to be children.
This past week we felt the Lord urge us as a community to daily set time aside to intercede for this situation. As footage of civilian slaughters are hitting the news cycle, we see that ISIS is determined not to let civilians to leave the city alive. The families who are held hostage are being used as human shields and suffer from severe hunger, deprivation of clean water and healthcare; many are wounded as well. It has become very clear that unless we see the Lord move in a miraculous way many of these people will die in the confrontation. The final breakdown of the ISIS stronghold In the city is anticipated to take place over the next couple of days. It's time to engage:
Will you join us in prayer and stand with the people of Mosul in their most desperate hour of need?
