KL2 Career Development Awardees
The KL2 Mentored Career Development program is a CTSI-sponsored educational program that provides two years of support for new investigators interested in a career in clinical or translational research. The recipients for 2017 are:
Lauren Solan, M.D., M.Ed., assistant professor of Pediatrics and a pediatric hospitalist at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), will evaluate the utility of an existing adult-based hospital readmission risk assessment tool for use with children. Solan will also modify the tool to address additional factors that may contribute to a pediatric patient’s risk of unplanned healthcare reutilization.
Fahad Saeed, M.B.B.S., assistant professor of Nephrology at URMC, will conduct a pilot study evaluating early palliative care for elderly patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The KL2 award will allow Saeed to investigate the impact of palliative care consultation on decision-making, disease management outcomes, and quality of life for CKD patients and their caregivers when facing decisions regarding renal replacement therapy.

Post Your Study on the
UR Health Research Website
The CTSI manages the UR Health Research website, HealthResearch.urmc.edu. This is a public website where patients and the community can learn about research, search for studies that are open, and volunteer to participate. Google Analytics data shows that the Open Studies page is the most visited page on the site, indicating that people are looking for studies that are currently open. If you have a study for patients or community members, contact the Research Help Desk to get your study posted.

UNYTE Scientific Session Call for Posters
Poster abstracts are now being accepted for presentation at the UNYTE Scientific Session, “Collaborate to Innovate: Maternal & Child Health Translational Research,” at the University of Rochester School of Nursing on July 14, 2017.
This scientific session will draw a wide audience of researchers, clinical leaders, and data scientists from across UNYTE institutions to spark interdisciplinary research collaborations in maternal and child health.
This year, we are calling for two types of posters:
Research posters: focused on the topic of the Scientific Session (award eligible).
Descriptive posters: sharing information on your institution’s programs, laboratories, services, and resources related to the topic of the Scientific Session, as described above.
Award eligible research posters should focus on scientific and clinical evidence, as would be expected for a peer-reviewed journal. One student/trainee and one faculty/staff poster will be selected for research awards, by popular vote of the Scientific Session attendees.
For more information, see the Scientific Session Event Page. If you have any questions, please contact us at UNYTE@urmc.rochester.edu. For full information and to submit a poster abstract, click this link.
