VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Mighty Fortress

Mission of the Month
Hartland Food Pantry

Summer is a challenging time for food pantries to keep their shelves stocked, especially with school-age children home for every meal.  With that in mind, the Mission of the Month for this summer is the Hartland Food Pantry. Please help reduce hunger in our community by bringing in non-perishable food items for the Hartland Food Pantry. A collection bin for your food donations is located in the church narthex.

Don't forget to take Flat Jesus and a God on the Go Box. Again this year, we have God on the Go boxes filled with games, coloring pages, Flat Jesus and much more, in the church lobby ready to go with you.

Color in your Flat Jesus, take pictures with Him, and send in your photos to socialmedia@sharefollowserve.com.  Let's see all the places Jesus visits this summer.
Martin Luther Quote of the Week

 Grass Cutters This Week

Thank you to Michael Wojtkunski and Jake Gould  for mowing last week and a reminder to Team Two, Dick Manke and Tod Hamilton, that you are on the schedule for June 29–July 1.
Summer Sunday School

Summer Sunday school is off to a great start! However, we need more volunteers. We are currently looking for a teacher on the following dates: July 9, July 16, July 30 and August 20.  If you are interested in helping, please sign up at the welcome desk or contact Christine Piper (cpiper79@wi.rr.com) or Shawn Motley (shawn.motley11@gmail.com).

You will be emailed the lesson the week before you teach. You only need to prepare about 20 minutes of material — the children come back to worship in time for communion.
July 11, 2017, The Chamber of Commerce is coming to visit!

Church of the Resurrection will be teaming up with CHOICES Coaching and Consulting to host the Hartland Chamber of Commerce’s B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Cards) Business After 5 event on July 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

All church members are welcome to attend to take advantage of the networking opportunity.

We will be making a brief presentation to introduce our church to the guests, as will Krista Morrissey, the owner of CHOICES. There will be networking opportunities with other Chamber members. Guests will be invited to try playing chimes, tour the community garden and make a s’mores by our fire pit. Contact Jeni McCullough at jenniferm@villagegraphics.biz with any questions.

The Synod has given all churches in transition between settled pastors four questions for our reflection. Please help the Transition Team by including your own answers. You can fill out a paper copy at church services this week or you can send your replies to office@sharefollowserve.com by the end of June..

•    What do you like about our congregation?
•    What one thing would you like to improve about our congregation?
•    How do you feel about worship? (Any praise or suggestions?)
•    As a community, how are we doing with sharing the good news of Jesus with our neighbors and those in need?

You’ll notice that we discussed questions 1-3 at our Cottage Meetings last winter. If you participated, please take a minute to answer question 4. If you didn’t have a chance to attend, here’s your opportunity to contribute.  – Pastor Paula, for the Transition Team

SOPHIA Discussion

Join SOPHIA on June 26 at 7 pm at Beer Snobs for a discussion of Matthew Desmond’s book “Evicted: City Poverty and Profit in the American City.”

The 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning book written by Harvard sociologist Matthew Desmond takes readers into the poorest neighbor hoods of Milwaukee, where families spend most of their income on housing and where eviction has become routine. The book follows eight families as they struggle to keep a roof over their heads, showing how a lack of stable shelter traps families in poverty and destroys lives meant for better things. Based on years of embedded fieldwork and painstakingly gathered data, “Evicted” transforms our understanding of extreme poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving a devastating, uniquely American problem.

Books are available in the church office.  If you don’t have time to read the book but are interested, please come and join the discussion anyway.
Office Hours and Phone Messages

Why are we changing summer office hours at the church, and how do we handle emergency phone messages?  As you may know, the church administrative workload decreases in the summer, so the church office has always adjusted summer hours, generally shortening them from 9-4 pm to 10-2 pm. In the past, there was a pastor in the building every day of the week.  (Pastor Stein often came in on a Saturday and he and Pastor Liz took different days off.)

We’re adapting to a different reality now, but want to make sure you can reach the pastor and staff: The ladies who work in the office requested that we keep the start time at 9 am - just as it is in the program (or school) year from Labor Day through Memorial Day. So they will work until 1 or 4 pm, depending on the workload. I am often here some of the afternoons and several evenings, so I will catch calls or messages. Mary Dunn will phone in and check messages on Friday and Saturday in order to pass on or handle urgent messages.

But if it’s a true emergency, please call my cell phone:  608-346-6479.

--Pastor Paula
Lake Country Cares Cab

Did you know one of our church building’s tenants is a ministry that helps people in need of a ride to urgent appointments? Lake Country Cares Cab is growing fast and in need of more volunteers. If you want to know what it’s like to be a volunteer driver, stop by and talk to one of the volunteers on a weekday or talk to Dick Manke, who volunteers regularly.

Volunteer  Opportunities
DRIVERS NEEDED 4-5 HOURS A WEEK

Lake Country Cares Cab provides rides for ambulatory seniors and ambulatory disabled adults residing in Pewaukee, Hartland, Delafield, Nashotah, parts of Oconomowoc and Dousman.

These individuals need rides from their place of residence to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Moreland Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center in Summit, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, grocery stores, beauty salons and barber shops, Kohl's and WalMart, as well as to places of employment, educational facilities and meal sites.

Our cabs run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with volunteer drivers and are subsidized by the Waukesha County Department of Aging and Disability Resource Center. We maintain four vehicles to provide this service to those in our communities.

Our cars are fully insured.  We seek people with a willingness to assist those who need our services.  Background checks and good driving records are mandated.
For more information, call Ethel, LCCC manager, at (262) 695-2670 Monday through Friday.
