NOTE:
This meeting will be on the 2nd WEDNESDAY for this month only.
The I Ching is an oracle, a living document, that describes the Cosmic Consciousness, and has the potential to hold a mirror to one’s unconscious in such a way that guidance is given to thoughtfully asked questions. A three-coin method is used to
“throw a hexagram” in order to ask questions of the I Ching.
The I Ching began as an oral, shamanic tradition in ancient China, and a written version was developed during the Confucian era. Later, it was brought to the West when Richard Wilhelm translated it, and Carl Jung referred to it in his writings. Each student of the I Ching is invited to explore the wisdom of the I Ching based on their experience, not on any particular belief.
Joan Clement began studying the I Ching in April, 2016. For nine months, she participated in a weekly small group class led by Kyra Walsh. The group studied the I Ching version and other books written by Carol Anthony and Hanna Moog. In September 2016, Joan attended a three-day workshop with the authors, who live outside Boston, MA.
This version of the I Ching is unique in several ways. The authors were guided by through their consultations with the I Ching to rewrite the text, removing the patriarchal language that was inserted into the written text during the Confucian (feudal) era. The authors were also guided to develop the Retrospective Three Coin Method (rctm) for asking yes/no questions of the Sage (the voice of the Cosmos). These inquiries provide clarification of the guidance being given, along with methods for taking action to deal with every day challenges and eliminate mistaken beliefs.
In this session, Joan will give brief overview of this version of the I Ching, demonstrate throwing a hexagram and will assist people in throwing their own hexagrams. As time allows, people will read the I Ching text identified by their hexagram and develop an initial sense of the guidance the Sage intends for them.
For those who need more time to study the text identified through their hexagram at a later time, Joan will mail them copies of the appropriate sections. This brief introduction is intended to give people the tools needed to begin to consult the I Ching independently. Those who engage in this work on a regular basis will gain a better understanding of how the Sage works and will have greater access to the guidance available. Resources for follow up support will also be given.
